Hey everyone,
I'm fairly new to the whole gas engine thing, and I already blew my first 52cc...I am getting a new electric start 49cc to replace it...and I do not want to damage this one...
I would like to know how to properly go about prepping this engine to run...is there anything I should know before I run it for the first time? What fuel/oil mixture should I use for the break-in period...and how long is the break-in period? What mixture should I use after the break-in period? Also how often should I clean/maintain the engine, and how would I go about cleaning it? What are good things to do to maintain it between cleanings if its to be cleaned at all? Also...once all is said and done...is there a time limit that I can run this engine before it starts to get damaged per session? I want to ride this thing, but if it needs rest every 30 minutes or so, I need to know that....
If anyone could answer any of these questions for me, I would greatly appreciate it...
Thanks, Paul

Hello paulskii, I'm not sure about the oil to gas mix for your motor as my 2 stroke has oil injection so I just need to keep the reservoir full. I can't see the ratio changing after breaking in. Prepping depends on who made the engine and what they recommend. I've never cleaned my engine so I don't know anything about that. The motor should come with a maintenance schedule so just follow that. I don't understand the time limit question. If you're not overheating, you ought to be able to run it for 24 hours straight, stopping for more fuel of course. I think you're over thinking things. Check some of the PDI posts and read and learn! ;D

Thanks for the suggestions...I do tend to overthink...but I underthought with the previous engine, and was careless and now its being replaced...I dont want this to happen again...

So maybe you could describe in detail exactly how you treated the engine that popped? That would give us a clue as to what you did wrong, as it's pretty hard to blow an engine that's put together correctly and has fresh oil etc. Sometimes you get a lemon, but it's really hard to blow a motor just breaking it in hard, in fact, many prefer to break in hard. That's what I'm doing and almost 900 km and going strong.
