There's a few if you look hard enough, but lets face it, people are more opt to complain than praise...and with many of these internet dealers, there's PLENTY to complain about!

I actually see this differently. There seem to be a few drop-shippers that have done a good job. Here's some that consistently get good posts: scootertronics www.scootertronics.com/valley scooters www.scootersus.com/scooter dynasty www.scooterdynasty.com/Please feel free to add to the list, and also if I'm wrong about one of these.

The biggest problem I have seen and witness first hand is lack of communication. If these guys would just give you some info. I think there would be less to complain about. Or at least in my experience.

I live in Va and ordered a 50cc Speedster from Evo.com aweek ago last Monday. It arrived last Monday with free shipping and I was able to track it all the way from Ca. I had it together and was riding Monday afternoon. I was really pleased with Avo's service. Tommiefromva

I like my scooter well enough, and expected the few problems I've had so far, maybe I got lucky?

Most folks new to this Chinese scoot purchase experience really don't understand what is going on in this business. You are not dealing with large businesses, like Honda, etc. dealerships but with small, "Mom & Pop" type stores. There just isn't a lot of staff and their hands are tied by the importers. As we have acknowledged here many times, this year is just crazy. The dealers get the same put off from their suppliers that we hear complaints of about the dealers. This is all new and there is really no established channel of communication as you might expect from Honda, etc. "Factories" in China are not reliable in meeting their dates promised to the importers. Importers are swamped with demands from their dealers. Dealers are swamped by phone calls and demands for getting info., parts and scooters YESTERDAY. I am not trying to make excuses for ANY of the dealers. In a perfect world, all calls would be received by a live person and messages left would be responded to immediately. It just isn't going to happen with the circumstances that exist in this business today!! We are all experiencing the exasperation of "growing pains" in the industry. I wonder how many folks actually order a new car today as opposed to buying from the lot? I know from past experience that placing an order for a car often brings with it the same delays and frustrating lack of communication. In our society, some folks have just become too darned impatient and want everything STAT! I know it is not fun to wait and not be informed but that is the way the game is played today. As for me, I am VERY GLAD I bought last year!!

I ordered from MTS because of this posting and because I couldn't find any negataive postings about them. While the experience hasn't been the most enjoyable - Sam and Wendy are nice people just trying to make a living. They might not have the best customer service skills but they are trying. Check out my thread Motor Toy Shop.com problems to see all the crap I have gone through with them in the past 6 weeks. Ross

Check my thread on VBike. That's about as positive as it gets with China rides.

Excellent post scooterollie, it should be put on every thread there is!!! And often!
As to good dealers and bad dealers, the best you can do is read through this section that deals with them. I promise you that you will not find any dealer that someone has not posted a gripe about, just know that going in! What you need to see as a big ole red flag is a dealership that has constant complaints, especially if they have failed to live up to promises made to customers that have had trouble.
Scooters get banged up during shipping sometimes, a good dealer will see to it that replacement parts are made available, and work with the customer to get things right, even though the fault may lie with the trucking firm. The dealers that just take orders and forget about the customer seem to be the majority at this time. The market is relatively new to the US, and has literally exploded recently due to panic buyers realizing that they can't afford the gas prices. So in any boom, the crooks are always standing by to jump in and take advantage of people.
The two types of dealers to be aware of are those that have an actual physical store AND a service department. They can offer a lot of advantages over the other type of dealers that are by far the more numerous, the DROP SHIPPERS. Aptly named, 98% of these drop you off the edge of the Earth the second you payment clears. And if you have trouble, you are on your own, they don't want to hear about it.
The dealers that have shops can offer an inspected and tested scooter, known as a full prep., these machines regardless of the name on them will always present fewer problems than those that show up in your driveway 'direct from China'. What ever shape the bike was in when it left the factory is what you get, plus the lumps and bumps of the shipping process.
Not all drop shippers are evil, but even if their intentions are golden, they cannot offer the service of a brick and mortar shop.
Good hunting!
