Hello everybody!
I'm a newbie to ScootDawg and scooters in general, but I love the site so far. I'm a college student looking for a scooter to putt around town, and the forums have been invaluable. THANK YOU.
I am seriously considering a used Roketa Fiji/Aruba 150cc with 900 miles on it. After reading lots of online articles and forums, it seems that Roketa is a good brand for being Chinese. The scooter looks perfect for my needs, and I want to know if anyone out there has a Roketa and can give any general advice on longevity, mechanical quality, etc.
I KNOW I KNOW, CHINESE SCOOTERS ARE PIECES OF JUNK. Unfortunately, some people just aren't all that financially well-off. I earn about $50 a week tutoring math, and that's all. Therefore, I am unable to "save for a better scooter, like a Honda or Yamaha" like every person and their second cousin advises to do. Sorry. I'd really love to, but for me it's simply impossible.
Any other Roketa owners out there who can fill me in on the overall quality? Thanks in advance!

Alot of manufacturers have their own issues with quality control and sometimes there can be a bad batch of bikes produced and you wont really know if its a turd box or a decent bike unless you take off the seat bucket and know what to look at or taking it for a test ride.

Hello everybody! I KNOW I KNOW, CHINESE SCOOTERS ARE PIECES OF JUNK. Thanks in advance! NOT all Chinese scoots are junk as inky said its all a crap shoot it all depends on who is working on the line some may be crap , others may be good
the biggest prob with all scoots is the RIDER/OWNER. most people dont do a good PDI, dont take care of simple preventive maint tasks etc etc and then have all kinds of probs.
those that take care, a lil TLC, dont have a ton of probs. then again u can have probs, no matter how good of a mech u r.
it all depends on you, well 75% of the time

A 150cc scooter is about the perfect size for running around town.

it all depends on you, well 75% of the timethe only problem with chinese scoots are the materials being used to manufacture the parts. lets say on the crank case, chinese scooter manufacturers uses same materials that is being used to make aluminum pots and pans. unlike the japanese, they use high grade alloy and aluminum materials. so it means that however you maintain your chinese scoot, problem will still be experienced, MORE than in japan scoots.

Hi welcome aboard Pleased to meet you A 2 stroke 50 will be a good choice as well as their performance puts them in the same class as a 150 4 stroke You state that you dont have much money. with the 150 you would need a motorcycle endorsement on your license with the scoot insured and registered im not sure where you are located but most likely you wont need any of that with a 50cc scoot Dont forget to set aside some money in the budget for riding gear and a helmet Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

I the only advice I can give you is make sure to do all the proper upkeep on your scoot....And also make sure you have the proper gear and license like Hank said. Here in Illinois alot of people think if its 49cc or less they dont need a motorcycle license when they are wrong. So I suggest you go to your local DMV and talk to them about your state laws. Would hate for you to get a ticket while out riding.

You wont regret the Roketa. The torque will be superior to a 2 stroke and the motors are pretty tough with their OHC setup.

Anyone know anything about the brand Tuohe? I have a friend at college who has a like-new one that I'm also considering. The brand doesn't seem to be as well known as Roketa, so I'm a bit more sceptical. I am, however, confident that he would have taken care of it.

If you want a 150 then get a CFMoto Glory or Echarm . The Glory has EFI and some Echarms like mine as well . They have a 2 year full warranty ( better than Honda warranty ) liquid cooled engine , disc brakes F&R and more power than the cheap 150s . Hurry before they are all sold www.scootersus.com/cfmotoGLORY.html

I'm trying to stay away from buying online simply because of uncertainty and possible registration/title headaches. Thanks for the link, though!

I'm trying to stay away from buying online simply because of uncertainty and possible registration/title headaches. Thanks for the link, though! Hi See if you have a Puma Cycles dealer near you then www.pumacycles.com/I owned one in the past and i can say with certainty that they import and sell, (ZHEN manufactures them )a very fine scoot and their customer service is topnotch as well Imho you cant go wrong with a Puma And as to a 50 cc being capable of keeping up with the traffic flow, a 2 stroke 50 will have no problem My April is a high end stock 2 stroke 50 cc scoot and can hit 60+mph Shes more then adequate for travel on all roads barring the interstate Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

I do not blame you as I have read many horror stories about online buys and I bought all of my scooters locally . Do a web search as you may want to take a road trip if needed to get a new scooter . If all fails you might find a used scooter on CraigsList .
A 2T 50 is fun to ride I promise

Your used Roketa 150cc would be a nice choice for a guy on a budget and is able to do his own repair work. You will have a lot of options for modifying it as well.

most of the chino speedometer and tacho are not even accurate. 14k miles may only mean 1,400 actual miles in many cases.

... I KNOW I KNOW, CHINESE SCOOTERS ARE PIECES OF JUNK.... Stopped at the motorcycle dealer, they had a couple of used scooters -- a Honda Elite and a Piaggio Fly 150. Took pictures with my cell-phone. As you can see the labels, both were made in China. Quality depends on the manufacturer and if they will stand behind the warranty.

Thanks everybody... I'm also considering a $600 Tao Tao, a $1000 Aprilla Scarabeo, a $650 Lance Venice, and a $500 Velocity. They all have ~1000 miles on them. Which one is the best deal? (I'm a total neubie... )
