I was getting back into two wheels many years ago so I bought a Tank 150, moved up to a Burgman 400 and now have it AND a Honda ST1100. I do most of my own maintenance and am mechanically inclined. That being said, I'm looking for a good 50cc for my vertically challenged wife. She's 5'1" and "most" of the scooters out there are too tall for her. I haven't run her around to "size up" everyone that is for sale and I would imagine that if I did actually run her around town (Houston area) that we would eventually find something. BUT, Is there anybody here who has a recommendation? There has to be one that's shorter than most. I do realize seats can be cut down, but I would like to see if there's anything available without having to modify it right after the purchase - I'd rather not have to. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas! Tom

Hi The Genuine Buddy, the Yamaha Vino, the Honda Metropolitan, and Kymco Sento are all well suited for those of short stature My vote would be the for the buddy as once derestricted their 2t 50 engine has ample power and performance to cope with with the speeds and traffic flow of most roads Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

Most scoots, 50 or 150cc can host a 5' person just fine, without modifications. I'd probably go for a 150, as a 4stroke 50cc is not very powerful. Unless your wife is very petite in weight, and you know how to mod a bike (like put better rollers on them, and find all kinds of performance increases, like install a BBK and stuff,...), a 4 stroke 50cc will accelerate pretty slow, making the rider wish he had something faster almost all the time! Just suggesting..
Most 50-150cc scoots all have about the same saddle height.

Yeah, my wife had that issue on the Buddy she tried on at a cycle shop in Iowa. The guy said that aftermarket shocks and a lower seat were available that could lower it another couple inches. Thanks for the suggestions. I missed a used Metropolitan (28" seat height) the other day that seemed to be a pretty good deal - apparently it was! I think I'll just go down to China Central and see how she fits. I think I'll be doing some type of modyfying regardless of what we get. Hey, if it doesn't work for her, the daughter turns 14 soon (and is a bit taller - 5'4/5" currently).
