Ok on Friday rode my scooter and the lights worked fine. So I get on it Sunday night and the headlights and brake light will not work??? All the other lights on the scooter work including the running tail light.. turn signals work dash lights work just not the headlights and brake light what in the world could be wrong PLEASE HELP someone.
Thanks
Ok this tells me where to look and possibly what's wrong. Here is the typical wiring diagram for a Chinese 50cc scooter with variations. Most 50cc scooters have no light switch and the headlights feed off of the R/R straight to the dimmer switch and wire colors vary also. Typically the headlight feed wire to the dimmer switch is yellow but it has known to be brown also.
If you don't have a headlight switch then remember it's a direct feed from the R/R and the tail lights are also on he same circuit. Since you say you have tail lights then you have one of several possibilities of what's wrong with the headlights.
(1) broke wire from R/R to dimmer switch and if you have a on/off headlight switch also consider it in this equation
(2) bad dimmer or on/off head light switch either broken or corroded and not making good contact and add a loose or corroded wire to check for too
(3) loose or corroded headlight bulb/s or burned out bulb/s
(4) bad wiring between the dimmer switch and the bulb/s
(5) bad ground wire to bulb/s
On the brake lights if your turn signal, horn and accessory lights work and the scooter will start with the brake handle then you have no blown fuse.
50cc scooters typically have one main fuse on the red wire from the battery to the key switch and if it was blown none of the above things would work at all. If it does have a second fuse it will be on the black output 12Vdc wire from the key switch and the same would occur none of the above would work.
If the scooter will start with the brake handle pressed then you are sending 12Vdc to the brake lights up to at least where the starter relay ties on because it gets it's 12Vdc power from the same wire yellow/green as the brake lights do.
So if again the scooter starts with the brake handle pressed then look for one of these possibilities:
(1) broke or loose wire yellow/green from where it connects to the starter relay wire
(2) loose or corroded bulb/s or a corroded wire to the bulb/s
(3) burnt out bulb/s
(4) bad ground wire to the bulb/s
I'm thinking that you don't have tail lights and do have brake lights because again the head and tail lights are on the same circuit, both feed off of the R/R and are only on with the scooter running.
The brake lights feed off of the battery, you could turn on the key and just press either handle and see if this is the case. If they don't come on and the scooter will start electrically then look for what I listed.
good luck
