I have a question... I noticed in another post, Someone said a bigger rear tire or in my case "tire(s)" gives you more speed? Is this true? My IceBear has 10" rear wide tires and I saw these today but they say they are made only for trailer tires. I have an overall tire height of about 18" now and this new tire is 12" rim and overall 21.25 Height. Im wondering... A) Will I lose alot of control? Handling, turning etc..? B) Will this tread be sufficient? since I wont be going over 55? C) My tires are factory Kenda and these are kenda also in the link so I'm thinking it's ok. Please examine this tire and tell me if anyone thinks it would be an ok modification. www.etrailer.com/Tires-and-Wheels/Kenda/AM31208.html Thank you ;D

The rear tire height does almost nothing to control/handling/turning. As long as the tire is as wide as the previous, you'll barely notice any handling difference. If it is thinner, you may notice the rear moving side to side more (esp. when running over potholes etc).
Much like a car you can put some real thin tires on a rim, and still have good control. the only thing your tire height does is make your ride harder or softer.
As long as the tire fits, there will be no problem. Putting a larger rear tire will result in higher top speed, at the cost of lower acceleration.
If your engine is strong enough, theoretically your speed will increase by 18.61%; or, if your top speed was 51, with a new tire it could get upto 60.5MPH. However if the engine has trouble getting to that speed, you may still top out at 51, or possibly even slower. Though most of the time you'll notice a half way increase (say to 55 or 57MPH), but it'll take much longer to get there.

I have to do all the new upgrades to the motor first before attempting to do this I think.
Im not concerned about acceleration so much anymore, top speed is now my#1 priority now so this will happen in the very near future for sure.
Ill keep you posted.
I owe you a beer man! thank you ;D

One more thing... Is going from my 10" rims to a 12" is going to be ok also?
I didn't see a comment on the rims, only the tire increase, would both be ok and even better?, lool!

Hi A trike is going to handle differently then a 2 wheeled scoot I would wait until some of the trike owners chime in to see what their views on the subject at hand are. You wouldnt want to compromise your control of the vehicle by making changes without knowing the possible results Take care and ride safely dear friend. Yours Hank

Wider tires handle better , taller may have less revolutions , but if you want more speed try a larger main jet and lighter rollers

Bigger jet yes, but wouldn't "heavier" rollers give me more top speed? I though lighter rollers were for low end, no? jim... Without breaking out my postal scale and ripping my variator off, looool! Can you tell me what I have right now, thats stock in my Mojo? I want to order some Dr Pulleys and I dont know. Is it 5.5 Gram rollers I have in there now? Thanks you guys ;D ;D ;D

Thanks you guys ;D ;D ;D Hi Your most welcome and thanks ;D To find your rollers weight accurately simply get a small scale and weigh them or you could try taking them to the postal office and see if they will weigh them for you. Before getting your sliders get a roller tuning kit www.scooterworks.com/prima-roller-weight-tuning-kit--3g-to-14g--16x13-products-1935.phpExperiment to find the proper weight for your performance needs and then get some quality rollers or sliders, do not use the tuning rollers for every day use as they are only for fine tuning purposes and will not last long under constant daily use When going from rollers to sliders go up one gram in weight, so if 6 gram rollers work go with 7 gram sliders Take care and ride safely dear friend Yours Hank

I didn't know it was a trike, depending on if the rear is solid, or if the tires tilt in a corner... If it's solid, changing tire width will do very little. If it's bending with corners, there might indeed be some handling improvements (or de-provement when the tire gets too ridiculously wide).

If your scooter tilts a suggest sticking with the same width, it gets a little funky and wants to slide a bit when you widen them. The tire needs to be able to transfer the weight from the center point to either the inside or outside edge when turning. wider tires makes this difficult because of the extra surface area and sometime even the tread can play apart in whether or not it will prefrom properly.

Icecube, Here are the Rear Tires you want, they are 205/65x10 fit on your current rims and are 3" taller than what is on there. If you want to see them on a Trike go checkout Alleyoops Trike on ScooterD0c or ScooterPr0fessor he has them on. They are DOT street legal tires and are high speed rated and much softer than the hard ones that come with the trikes. Also you have to be carefull the HUBS that hold the rims on the Trike are 4 bolt and the hole spaceing across is 4.5 while most in the U.S are 4" across which would mean your 12 inch rims would not fit. But you do not need bigger rims just taller tires. www.golfcarttirestore.com/205-65-10.htm

For about $40 there is an upgrade concerning the transmission gears as well.

Go and talk to Alleyoop he really has a badass Ice Bear 150 trike and knows every inch of the trikes. He has the taller tires plus 16/37 taller tranny gears and a lot of other mods and he is putting in even taller gears.

taller tire = more distance traveled per revolution =more speed ,side effect is loss of torque, my 2 cent

Up to 4" taller tires you will not notice any loss of torque GUARANTEED. Unless of course your motor has no power to begin with. But the 157QMJ motors are pretty strong and the gearing in the trikes are for pulling power not for top end speed. The gearing is good for 50-55mph.

The real problem is that as you increase tire size and technically get more top speed you also lose torque, the end effect is if your engine can't transfer enough of its limited power to the wheels you may actually end up going slower than you are now... You really have to study your current setup, way I see things if you're not hitting redline rpm's at all then you need to tweak the engine first, once you start hitting 8k rpm's on a regular basis (even if only on down hills) you can start thinking about re-gearing...
To be quite truthful, when you're moving ALL out your engine rpm's should be just near the TOP of your power curve... Now if they're well past the top then you can gear up in the sense of increasing top speed vs. losing some torque.
On another note I found that a 115mm racing variator does as much as getting bigger tires, that extra bit of belt riding surface makes a HUGE difference and with a racing variator you're not sacrificing torque.

205/65-10 is what you want. I just put a set on my PST150-11. I don't think there's room for ANY bigger tire. If it gives me 5mph more I'll be happy.

You got it Ibtrikin, Icecube listen to the people that have them on, do not worry about low end torque and looseing speed. That would be true if your going from 10" to 13" or 14" rims, but just putting on taller tires you will be a happy camper. Go with the 205/65/10 Lefty Here are the difference in height and width. You have the one on the LEFT: Get the one in the middle, the other one you will have to mod the center cover in the back to move the fender brakets in more- the tire is to wide ALSO 4" taller.

Some misunderstanding here, The term gravedigger was meant to user 'ibtrikin'; It is said when someone raises up a thread from the dead. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=grave%20diggerThe OP of this thread, posted it 1/2 years ago, I presume the OP has found his answer already; if not he would have re-visited this thread. It is also NOT used as an insult, neither does anyone get offended just because someone is digging up an old thread. Done it myself too (thread digging) Although Hank's interpretation of gravedigger is interesting! The tires somewhat do resemble those of the monster trucks!
