I haven't posted this winter, but have taken the info here and used the time to learn a lot about my scooter since I had it apart last fall. My plan was a thread about this newbie that conquered his first Chinese scoot problem, but there's another bug now that it's back together. It's running better than it ever has and the disassembly was well worth the effort. The remaining bug just keeps me from my herioc tale. Just wanted to say that I wasn't one that just "used" the forums and left. I just want to see what I can do on my own since all the info is right here. When I'm smart, I might be useful. Just not now.

260orbust: you can stop whenever you like. We aren't making you post answers to our questions. But just know this: everytime you DO post an answer you are helping to build a scooter! and make a new scooter fan. Feel free to skip out the threads about scoot questions. But we do thank you for not skipping em.

Not sure why anybody would expect on any given forum that every user would hang out all the time answering questions. Every forum has several experts that do just that. So why would everyone need to do this. But really most people have things to do other than sit and read and give answers and opinions on internet forums. Something breaks you head to the forum and search. If you cant find you ask. Some people are better at searching than others. Not to mention there are people on this paticular forum that have forgot more about fixing scooters than i will ever know. So why would i waste time injecting a possible wrong answer when others on here can and will come and give the correct answer.

The big annoyance is that every week there are dozens of posts with the same problem and 95% of them can be fixed with 3 things. Clean the carbs, adjust the valves, check and make sure all lines and and intake are routed properly and seated correctly.
People don't even bother to check those before posting erratic running and hard starting questions. Then they don't bother telling us that they were being smart and removing restrictors thinking that'll give em power, it doesn't run, and then we tell them if they did that, they need to rejet and then we all know they get a blank stare on their face like all of a sudden we're speaking Latin.
So now we have to walk them through step by step how to adjust the valves, how to route the intake and hoses, we have beat it into their heads to put those restrictors back in because they need to get it running right BEFORE doing modifications. Then we have to put up with, GIMME POWER! GIMME POWER! FASTER! I HATE CHINA!
After all that, never hear from them again.

But we do thank you for not skipping em. A question was asked and I decided to give an honest answer. I like to keep it real ya know? And when I was still riding the ol bag O crap I did offer what little tips, tricks or help I could. Whether they become scooter fans or end up hating them is their business.

All you got to do is go look at pictures or something, just don't visit this forum.

This is really turning into a bad thread. Kind of like the Boric Acid thing. I think a moderator should lock it up and delete it or something.

I would just remind current users new users are welcome, and message boards are for asking questions and getting answers from those willing to answer. To say "it's been asked and answered look it up" goes against the grain of what posting on a message board is all about imo For many its a brand new experience, as are scooters. As for us? We'll be dead and gone and the internet will go on. As will scootdawg

Here's a thought.
For those of you tired of answering the same questions over'n'over (which I understand--that CAN get irritating), have a Stickie or Word file or something similar with the links to where you've answered certain questions before. Then when you see a repeat question, just post "Your problem's been asked before, here's the link, good luck." That way you don't have to bother with repeating all your advice while telling the noob in a polite and friendlier way to "go look it up".

True, and it's the same thing when I see them post about just buying a new 49cc scooter, and before it's even been broken in they already want to put on the 100cc bbk and turn it into a small motorcycle, but seem to overlook the fact that dependign on state law, if their state law has a maximum 50 cc and/or 30 mph speed to qualify for riding w/o a license and insurance, the moment they add that 100cc bbk on their 49cc , their scoot is now for all practical purposes- illegal to be driven on the road without a MC endorsement and insurance- again depending on the state. In my state, those mods would invalidate the moped registration and I'd have to license my TT50 as a motorcycle, and buy insurance, otherwise I'd get cited for driving over 30 mph, and if as had happened to some here- the cops checked over the scoot and found irregularities, modifications, etc then you have another problem. What concerns me too is that with so many apparantly flagrantly modifying these 49 cc scoots with 100cc bbk to go 50 mph etc., and the "secret" 63's that are hardly asecret anymore now! sooner or later the DMV's are going to start cracking down, and when they do it's going to be in a very unpleasant way- like requiring ALL scooters to be licensed as MC and be insured, and inspected if the state requires it for cars and MC's.
Instead of encouraging newbies into making their 49cc/30 mph scoot into a 100cc drag racer or small motorcycle, they should be educated as to why this is a bad idea, if not from the extra stress on an engine not designed or built for that, then from the legal standpoint where they will be radared, speed trapped, stopped by the police, cited, fined and damage their right to drive and their insurance rates (some states have a "point" system, too many points from citations and your license is suspended)
