Hi guys, I need your help on choosing which scooter fits my commuting the most. I'm having my eyes on Vespa GTS 300 and the Yamaha TMAX I'm new to scooters. I passed the MSF and I'm thinking to put my hands on my own scoot. I'll be commuting to work from South San Francisco to SOMA - San FRancisco (Bay Area, California). I will not be riding on Freeway. Direction map: maps.google.com/maps?saddr=94107&daddr=94080&hl=en&ll=37.706368,-122.398682&spn=0.164603,0.307274&sll=37.708813,-122.394562&sspn=0.164597,0.307274&geocode=FSAzQAIdhVi0-CmDT__aM36PgDHjv05c1Ebs7w%3BFYCQPgIdujS0-Cnv7P5DBXmPgDFdM1bneXU6-A&vpsrc=0&mra=ltm&t=m&z=12 From Soma to Bay View, it'll be a lot of stop and go with traffic lights. After Bay View, it'll be basically motorway. Thanks for your time.

howdy and welcome to the forum
i have ridden the tmax and found it very comfortable and stable but i think for stop and go traffic and filtering between lanes the vespa has the edge. it has been over twenty years since i rode that route so things could have changed.
the flat floor of the vespa will allow for a more varied position at stop. the vespa will also have more storage options and better wet weather protection if you add the right windshield. i expect the vespa also to get better fuel mileage and be easier to work on. i know the battery is nearly inaccessible on the tmax so if you go that way add some kind of extensions to the battery cables so it can be charged and jumped without pulling the headlight and all the front tupperware.
i expect in reality you have already made up your mind based on how they look and how you might think you look on it. yes? oh, by the way probably the vespa will be cheaper.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya

Consider the 2009 Sport City 250 or the 2009 Scarabeo 500 also. They are on a pretty good incentive program from Piaggio and the Sport City 250 is now $2,999 and the Scrabeo 500 is at $3,999. Much less than either the TMax or the Vespa GTS 300 and basically the same engineering as the Veaspa only on 15 and 16 inch wheels and with better highway manners.
