Hi Parked and ran into a local store for just a second, didnt think i need to lock her up No witnesses, no clues, no hope Im quite heart broken very perturbed and feel like and idiot as its my fault for not locking her up My HD cam, tools, spare parts cover, both the cable and disc lock and cell where in the trunk The police dont offer much hope of getting her back in any decent condition , they state most stolen scoots in CT are never retrieved and when they do on the off chance find one they are most times trashed beyond repair Well any suggestions on a new scoot, want to stay with a 50 cc, i may get another puma but would like to try a 2t this time and they dont carry any models with that type of engine Remember to always lock your scoot when ever she is unattended even if its only for a second RIP PUMA may 2011-dec 2011 puma by inuyasha50, on Flickr Take care and drive safely Yours Hank

I really do feel for you, I've had a very valuable bike stolen before, it's heartbreaking. If you're getting another, I would suggest a minerelli engined 2 stroke. It would be great fun to upgrade if that's the way you wanted to go, and if not they are still pretty quick

i always lock my bike unless i can see it. not only do i lock it, i chain it to a post or some other object that isn't easily moved. it's all too easy, especially with a 50cc, to drive right up beside the scoot with a side opening van and just put the bike in it and drive off.
i almost had that happen with my 50cc. i walked out just in time to see the van beside my scoot and 2 men standing by the bike. if i was a minute later they would have had it in the van.

post the VIN number. maybe someone with some "insider" knowledge will see it.
it might not be a bad idea to create a sticky for members VINS.

Very sorry to hear this Hank. I know you were very fond of this scoot. Don't be too hard on yourself though. The cretins take what they want, when they want, like the world is their mall.

Hank,
I am very sorry to hear about your scoot. Hopefully they will catch the punks who stole her. I look my scoot up everywhere I go...I even chain her up if I park her in my locked garage.
I would recommend giving the Kymco Super 8 a try. I have the 150cc version but they do make a 50cc version as well. They are great scooters. Keep your chin up! c

Hank so sorry to hear about your scoot, I know things don't look good right now, but I'm still going to pray that your scoot will be found unhurt. I've done the same thing, run into walmart with locking scoot up, I always turn the alarm on, but I guess it could still get stolen, I'll think twice the next time.

You know I was just told a story by a friend of mine. He talked to this guy selling books at a fair. He asked the guy about writing a check. The guy said fine, he takes checks. Then my friend asked about deadbeats and such, since people are from all over the country. The guy's response (paraphrased)-
Every so often I take a stack of uncollected checks to the local Hell's Angels chapter. I say I want to make a donation with these checks. I can guarantee that they collected the money and occasionally they send some back my way.
What a way to make sure your scooter is returned unharmed.

Sorry to hear about your bike Hank. It's sad that everything has to be chained down but whatever works ya know. A few people I know have had their scooter recovered by using this website, it's kinda like an Amber Alert for scooters. www.scooteralert.com

Hank - well, that sucks. Did you have insurance on it? My 50cc's in Missouri don't require it, so I'd be out of luck. We had people try and steal our old Honda Aero a couple of times, but they must not have been serious since the locked steering column seemed to foil them (hard to roll a scooter that goes in circles). I guess 2 people can pick up a 50cc, but even a 200lb scooter is unwieldy...so I'm always shocked to hear they get stolen. I never lock my 150, and it's only 240lbs...this makes me nervous.
As for the scooters you list...they're all good, but the Vespa would be my choice if price was no issue. I'd lean towards the Yamaha Vino if money was more of an issue.
There are significant tuning opportunities with the Rattler 110, but I've read several reviews that list them as "disappointing" with regard to top speed stock. I think you can get them to go faster.
For a long term, no need to ever upgrade, value...the Vespa winds hands down.
Eric

Hank, I hate to hear what happened...Please don't say it's your fault, if people would just leave things that are not theirs alone then you would not even have to lock it or have a lock to begin with. Sorry, it just makes me so mad!!!!!!

Hank, sorry about your loss but if you want to stay 50cc and you have the means, you would do well with the Aprilia. You would probably be happy with it in bone-stock condition; very nice bike.

Oh man sorry to hear that . I so untrust most people to where I always have it locked up . I use a Bike Club around the kickstand . It looks like a square and very thick . When kickstand is down starter , ignition and fuel pump are disabled . I then use a large bicycle ubolt lock through the wheels , to act like a meter maid boot . I have full coverage on mine to protect my investment .
Maybe if you get a used and beaten up scooter nobody would want to steal it . Hope I got a grin out you since I know I would be on a rampage looking for my scooter .

That really sucks, but having spent 36 years as a law man and investigator, it doesn't surprise me at all. Morals are at an all time low and many people have no respect for other's property. It seems to be getting worse every day. At least no one took it from you violently and you are okay. I hope they catch the miserable thief! Seems like you have a good attitude about it. I would be down, down, down...or mad, mad, mad...I know, I know, too much negative energy. You're doing the right thing...get another one and ride baby ride! (Just be sure to lock it up next time!)

Too bad Hank.
Around here, I never even take the key out of the ignition switch. Always have the kill switch on just in case some small kid starts playing with it, except when it's parked running in cold weather.
It's the only yellow Elite 80 in the County, and every cop knows who it belongs to.

Could your cel phone provider triangulate it ? Again I am so sorry for you as I know you love your scooter and your a nice guy to everyone in here .
On your next one take plenty of pictures of you with it along with the VIN . You maybe able to register new one with police to get a registered sticker to be a deter ant . I know its a hassle to lock and unlock even for a quick visit to a store , but well worth it . Some places allow scooters to park on the sidewalk near entrance providing its out of the walkway of others . When I have a scooter buddy we chain together when nothing to chain up with like a post . Its real hard to pick up and carry two scooters at same time even with 3 people . Scooters are stolen often here , most wind up a joyride with damage . Thieves want quick and easy so the more layers of security you use can make them decide against yours . Locked steering can be broken with a hard turn and its simple to hotwire a scooter . I have seen some alarms and the ones with a pager sound good to me .
I have seen some Echarm ads with a parking brake under the seat that locks the rear wheel and disables ignition . I thought that is a brilliant design but some reason mine was not installed .
Keep a look out on nearby areas on Craiglist as some are stupid to post stolen stuff there in nearby towns .
Check around stores and banks in area for cameras that may have the *^$&$&^$ thief on film .

Hank, maybe you can call the cell phone Co. and them them what happened. Perhaps they can tell you the last tower that the cell connected. You could drive around in that area, and maybe get lucky.

You have a huge selection of very nice used scooters in your area! I don't see a bike that isn't good in it's own way out of all the ones you have posted.
That Buddy looks like a modern version of the Buddy Blackjack 150. Very cool scooter, but only a single person seat if that's an issue. Otherwise, it was a rocket.
SYMs rock and I still love that Super Cub look the Symba sports, and the HD200 is one heck of a performance machine.
I still can't believe some weasels stole your Puma...grrr.

Hi Eric The fault is half mine as i should have locked her up with at least one of the locks I know better then that and it was a stupid omission and now im paying the penalty for my lapse in judgement Yeah we do have some nice pre owned and new scoots here in ct but only at dealers, the ones found on craiglist or in the bargain news or newspapers are mostly in poor condition Its so very hard to pick one out,the Puma was bought on a lark as i wanted to try out a new scoot as i havent driven one in ages and didnt want to spend a lot in case i didnt like them I was pleasantly surprised and quite taken with the fit, finish and performance of that inexpensive little scoot and she became my major mode of transportation when i wanted to just enjoy the ride and didnt need a larger vehicle So now im hooked on them and cant wait to get another Thanks ever so much for all the input on the specific scoots i posted, its quite a big help in helping me to make a wise and educated decision Take care and drive safely dear friend Yours Hank

Hank, I just skimmed over most of this but, If your cell was stolen with the bike you may be able to GPS the whereabouts of at least the phone? Call your service provider and they can find where the phone is, possibly leading back to the Bastard thief that took your ride ??!!!! Other than that, I have nothing but sorrow for your loss!!! Maybe your insurance can at least recover the purchase price...... Hi Thank you very much You missed much by skiming ;D Got the cell back but not in time to save the scoot scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=45918&page=1#447336No insurance no registration needed for a 50 cc in CT so i choose not to have any on her to keep costs down Next scoot will have full insurance even if its a 50 and wlll always be locked Better safe then sorry Take care and drive safely dear friend Yours Hank
