My scooter 150cc was running great this AM, went for a 30 min ride at 60 mph up to a steep hill. On reaching the hill I had probably only about 1 quart or 1 liter of fuel left. On the same hill with low fuel once before I stalled and had to walk the bike up to level ground, then rode fine to the gas station. Today, I did fine up the hill with low fuel level, back on level ground I suddenly lost power, the engine did not die, but almost - so I thought. I bounced the bike and ran fine for another 5 miles in perfect condition. I parked the bike for 2 hours, then got back on and drove back. 10 miles into my ride, low fuel level still, on level ground I got as if I had no fuel, I stalled. I bounced the bike, started it up and ran again, but this time the sound was different off the engine, and the power was bad. I ran the bike for 2 miles to a gas station, sounding rough and with 80% power at full throttle. Fueled up and power was bad, now I don't get to even 40 mph, and on an uphill did not even reach 10 mph, as a matter of fact, I had to push it with my feet so that it would not stall!!! What went wrong??? Bike is Vento - Chinese, with 4200 miles.

I have had my scooter cut out on hills, it is because the petcock is mounted too high on the frame on a gravity feed system. The solution was to reposition the petcock, lower down on the frame by about 2 inches. Never had that problem again.
But your other problem... the lack of power could be a number of things...starving for fuel, crap in the carb, plugged fuel filter, leaking vacuum hoses, poor spark.. and so on...
When were the valve gaps adjusted last?

I'm with sprocket on this as far as maybe some gunk in the tank that got stirred up with what little fuel you had left. First, check and make sure all of your lines are clear, then change the filter and the petcock. The petcock is the easiest thing to test in this situation, remove it from the fuel delivery system for a moment and go direct to the filter. Start the bike and see how well it does, if it clears up you're ok with just a new one but if not, clean out the carb really good Scooter

I would check the valves going up hills with so little gas in the tank the gas is in back of the tank away from the outlet and I am guessing it was running lean as sh!t. And running Lean with a load the motor most likely got really hot and your valves tightened up. You may luck out and that is all that went wrong and or something that was in the tank just clogged your fuel delivery system. Lefty

Anytime you run the tank dry, you run the chance of debris from the tank getting into the filter and/or carburetor, clogging them up. Replace the fuel fiulter and clean out the carb real good & it should be ok.
