Hi, ive done quite allot of research on how to improve my tomos nitro 50cc and not much has been helping so im hoping this community could help. So far i have taken off the a plastic restriction washer out of the variator, i have bought a DC Fired CDI and an open Air Filter from scrappyscooters. Right now im in the process of trying to find out if my exhaust has another restriction washer on the exhaust gasket. I weight about 220lbs and my speedo says it runs at 31mph, but i went past a cop speedo and it said i was going about 28mph. Im starting to run out of ideas and i really would like to see it at least go 40-45mph. Please post anything that may be of relevance to helping improve my Tomos Nitro 50cc

After completing the upgrades in my signature, I run 40-45mph verified. The hoca transmission upgrade was done due to damage ..It made no effect on my speed, just helped me to keep it going up small inclines. Any questions just ask!

Ive seen allot of people talking about changing the roller weights. Does it really make a big improvement on top end speeds? Im not sure what the stock weights are on it but if i do decide to change them should i just copy your specs?

Lighter weights = quicker acceleration and lower top speed. Heavier weights will increase your top speed but will slow your acceleration on takeoff. There are good posts here on weights, also sliders I hear are good when you determine what weights you are happy with. I now have 5g weights until I can buy some 4g sliders.

After 2500 miles my stocks were 5g. If you tune correctly, you will see a difference depending on what you choose to do.

I checked the exhaust and there is nothing there to take off... looks like im going to have to buy a bunch more performance parts? which ones do you suggest i should get next?

What is your engine model? Check out scrappydog thats where i have bought most all my upgrades. Oh and you can get lots of them cheaper and some free shipping off their ebay store. Just use that search engine.

Also start researching carbs if you dont know about them. You will probably upjet a few times based on what mods you do. It is easy if you are careful, clean and organized.

I believe your Tomos Nitro is a 2 stroke, am I right? If so then puting a performance air filter, and or Exhaust would require you to re-jet your carburetor with bigger jets.

Nope its a 4 stroke, and yes that was exactly what i was going to do, i ordered an #88 jet to put on the carb... i bet that the stock one is basically acting as a restriction because it is so small so its starving the motor

My 4 stroke with all mods done including air, exhaust is at a #95 main. Ya just have to become knowledgeable and experiment with jets...every case is different. My stock was a restricted 78 just upjetting to #80 without other mods helped a little.

ALRIGHT! Someone else with a Nitro 50. I have had mine for about 2 years. Lot's of research and work done. I did a whole post just before they lost a ton of posts last year. So let's see, 4 stroke P139QMB, stock,no exhaust restriction, no variator spacer. It has a dc CDI box which I replaced with one from Scrappy, but I don't think factory was limited. Didn't notice a change at the time anyways. If I can remember I believe it had an 80 or 82 main jet stock. The factory belt is a 733-17.7-30. 6g rollers. Stock ran 34 mph GPS. I am 6'2", 280 lbs so not bad. I first installed 5 gram sliders which made a nice acceleration improvement. A no limit CDI, seemed to make no difference. An 84 jet gave me 2 mph GPS more top end. An NCY variator with 5 gram sliders revved like crazy, but no speed. Put the stock 6 gram rollers in and for me that seemed to be the sweet spot with that variator. Rode like that most of last year. 38 mph GPS, 84 mpg(Cdn gallon) This year installed 72cc BBK. Major pain in the butt. The engine case opening is too small for the larger diameter cylinder. Had to grind the opening 3mm overall larger. So 1.5mm off all the way around. Fits fine now. Lot's of power. I can hold 35 mph into a strong wind now. Top speed 46 mph GPS with neither a head or tail wind. 86 main jet. Stock air box and exhaust for looks (police). Very happy now. Ride it rain or shine to work everyday. Mileage seems to have gone down a bit (80 - 81 mpg). Ordered a Bando belt from Scrappy as the extra power is wearing the stock belt out quicker. I have 2245 china miles on the scoot now. original belt still. The new belt is a little shorter, 723 not 733, so I am not sure how much of an affect that will have.
I think that is it.
