;DHi,
Just unwrapped my scooter from being wintered, it started after about ten kicks which wasn't bad considering it has been a long hard snowy winter, I assume my bogging problem is still there, not been out on it yet? Anyway, I obviously started testing everything to make sure it was all in good working order and everything works except the indicators. Brake lights, horn, rear light, front lights all work fine but the indicators are completely dead, nothing at all. I have:
Checked all bulbs followed wiring through, nothing loose or disconnected I checked a fuse under the front cowling, above the front wheel, not sure if it is related to indicators but it was fine.
Does anyone have any ideas as to where to look, what to check to fix this issue. They worked fine before winter.
Scoot is a Baotion BTM bt49qt. 139QMB
Thanks.

Did you check all the fuses in the fuse box? I know, only because it blew recently, that everything you mentioned was on a single 15 amp fuse on my scoot that was in the fuse box, not a stand alone fuse. I have 4 fuses, and I just pulled each one out until I found the culprit. If the fuse you checked was not in the fuse box, look around - my fuse box is buried so far in the back of my glove box to be almost inaccessible!

Cheers for the answer mike, I am not aware of any fuse box on the scoot though and I have been over the scoot pretty thouroughly. The wiring diagram I found doesn't show any fuses other than the one by the battery, but then I am no wiring diagram expert, so if anyone can see a fuse box here, let me know. I think that the fuse I found at the front may be for the alarm? You can see the wiring diagram here: baotianparts.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline.co.uk/partno_33012_1521.php

well when your alarm goes off did the lights in question flash ? If the fuse is good then it could be the alarm system box .

I never actually use the alarm as it is on an electric key fob which kept going off in my pocket and starting the scooter when it was outside, so I have only ever used the key, I guess I could check it to see what happens. I'll give it a go. _Cheers

if everything works but the turn signals check your turn signal flasher unit that has most likely went bad.

Thanks. Where do I find that? Is it the corrugated metal thing under the front cowling? Also, is there anyway of testing it or is it just a case of replace it to see if it is at fault?

well when your alarm goes off did the lights in question flash ? If the fuse is good then it could be the alarm system box . I found the alarm key fob and tried the alarm which works fine AND all the indicators flash as they normally do with the alarm, so do you think I should check the flasher unit? I took the scoot for a 3 mile run and it still bogs like it did all year, I never got to the bottom of it after going through everything, but after our hard winter here in Sweden, I am surprised it ran at all!!

No that sounds like operator malfunction,,very common problem ;D I took the scoot for a 3 mile run and it still bogs like it did all year, I never got to the bottom of it after going through everything, but after our hard winter here in Sweden, I am surprised it ran at all!!
Most likely a carb problem,,,,air /fuel issues you may need to re jet,and move the c clip on needle, mod your airbox and exhaust may be way to lean for where your at.

Hey SBH, by this, "No that sounds like operator malfunction,,very common problem" Do you mean me? Ha ha ha...or the flasher unit? ) As for the bogging the scoot has done it since I got it last spring, went through everything but didn't upjet, now thinking about it, it goes at WOT so maybe it is sucking all the fuel out the bowl quicker than it goes in? I have a standard carb set up, what size jet would you suggest? We don't have any laws here to check the scoots. As far as temps go, I will have to do this in centigrade, it drops to about -15 to 25 degrees centigrade in the winter, the summer months are about 25 degrees centigrade to 30 degrees centigrade. Gothenburg lies on the west coast of Sweden on the same level as Aberdeen in Scotland but gets much colder. I am from the south of England though and it is bloody cold here for me and I have lived here six years, still not used to it.

I have a glass fuel filter and it fills about halfway, do you think that it should be full and that maybe the petcock isn't delivering enough?

Well you said since you found your key fob that all works well ,I rest my case What jets thats a trick question my friend ,,the ones you have now are most likely a 70 or 72 main and a 30 pilot you might start with a 78/35 or 80/35 or 82/35 something like that will put you in the ballpark. With no scooter Gestapo you might wanna think about modding the airbox and exhaust,re tuning the CVT unit ,,you will think you have a new scooter and much needed power for hills. From England so your on a working holiday?

Could that be down to the flasher unit, which as far as I am aware sets an electrical pulse for the flash, but if it was knackered, maybe it stops everything? I am married to a Swedish girl and moved here six years ago, been trying to move back ever since, it is as cold as a witches tit here! I have sucked on the scoot and the flow from the petcock is fine. Hi again onewheeldrive! Yep, that is a pretty comprehensive post and I never solved it before wrapping up for the snow with the scoot. The closest I got was raising the needle in the carb but then the scoot was very hot and it went back to bogging the next day which is why I am thinking about jets now?

Might just be bad ground or loose connection on the turn signal circuit or coroded turn signal switch since it has sat. I'd try spraying some WD-40 into the switch and work the switch for a minute or two before I started pulling off plastic.

The bike was covered all winter with a proper scoot cover, but I will give the switch a spray up tonight, I have been under the handlebar cowling and had a look about but wasn't sure how to get into the switch itself. It could be a bad ground as well but nothing stood out when I looked around, but then seeing as I fried a headlamp bulb this morning, smoke drifting around in the headlight and all, something is up with the electrics....or maybe the bulb was at the end of its tether with the indicators not doing their bit?

Well I was just being a wise guy, thout it was working with key fob,if everything works but the turn sigs pretty safe bet it is the flasher.or maybe the turn sig button switch,,,, but I say flasher unit I have sucked on the scoot and the flow from the petcock is fine. thats good just make sure your filter is flowing too. The closest I got was raising the needle in the carb but then the scoot was very hot and it went back to bogging the next day which is why I am thinking about jets now?
Just maybe your bogging problem could be crap in the gas tank?? As motor creates "suck" in the system you draw crap around pump and slows down the draw, then motor dies ,crap settles ,,motor starts same thing again ,,thats a long shot but maybe.Sure the intake has a good seal, carb sealed to intake, carb sealed to airbox??,,,,,if all is as it should be then I would think it is because your in Sweden ,,so you would want to re jet. As for your headlamp well they only last so long,,sometimes they just go out quietly and sometimes they die a violent death Ya gotta change the bulb if your lucky your flasher is under the cowl with headlight.

Hi S.B.H,
Cheers for the response. The filter was new last year, I had one of those sealed things which I cut open when I replaced it, to see if there was any crap in there and it was clean as a whistle, didn't even need changing! I think I will whip the gas tank out, probably isn't just a whip it out job, but I will take a look and give it a clean. I replaced the carb intake last year as the old one had perished and split (on a 2009 scoot, who would of thought it), replaced the carb too, just in case that was mucked up, I will have a look around the airbox again though, but I think it is ok. I may have another look at the needle in the carb and try a couple of different settings. As for the bulb, I think that may have been retribution for the names I have called the scoot in the past year. I'll have that out at the weekend and look at that flasher unit too and switch.
Thanks for all the responses (everyone), I'll let you know how I get on.

I tried a new flasher unit and that didn't work, fortunately the guy gave it to me and said I can have a refund if it wasn't the problem.
Anyway, I took the switch apart again and noticed on closer inspection this time that one of the wires was loose, so I re-soldered it and it still didn't work, so I took the whole switch apart and cleaned it up, all the connections inside, was a bit worried when the ballbearing that aids the slider popped out onto the grass, but got it all back together and the indicators worked just fine, it just needed a bloody good clean inside.
Thanks for all the advice and help.
