I am new to scooters and can't wait to get my new used scoot on the road.what I have is a 150 T-5 I just replaced the starter but now there seems to be a problem with the fuel supply, from what I have read it has a vacuum fuel pump. this might be a silly question but how does this thing work? If I have the fuel line loose from the carb should i have fuel coming out of the fuel pump? also a diagram or picture showing where the lines actually hook to the carb would be great since they weren't hooked up when I got it and there are way more places that look like they are supposed to have lines to them than there are lines. i think i have them right I had it started once but it didn't want to idle, at the time i thought the carb needed adjusting but would really appreciate some help from someone who knows more about them than me.

Is your tank mounted higher than the engine or below the engine?
If it is higher you have a petcock. If it was lower you have a fuel pump.
They both work off vacuum from the intake of the engine. Basically, each time the engine sucks in fuel it activates the petcock or pump.
The petcock allows gas to flow by gravity to the carb. Basically it is a 'tap'.
The fuel pump has a diaphragm in it and the vacuum pumps a small amount of fuel up to the carb.
There are a bunch of people that call these both fuel pumps and this is true of some of the aftermarket parts companies too.
They are very different...I need to know what you have...

the tank is above the carb, whick from what you said means petcock, found out that part wasn't too expensive so went and got one and replaced that, did an oil change while I as at it, which seemed like mostly gas but from what I have learned from other threads is one of the things to look for on the petcock. and it ran long enough to warm up. adjusted the idle and tightened the nuts on the throttle cable was running pretty good, then i killed it let it cool and decided to check the spark plug before heading out on the test run and found it to not even be finger tight...duh don't know why i didn't check that before, took it out and cleaned it, it was pretty fouled. Put the plug back in and now can't get the stupid thing to start. thinking i might just need to make minor adjustments on the carb, kind of dial it in, but not sure. changing the plug today to see if maybe that will help. any suggestions? thanks guys , I am still learning but am at least mechanically inclined.

Check the spark plug boot. These thing are notorious to go bad. What happens is you pull the plastic boot off and there is a brass spring in there that is suppose to grip the threads on the top of the spark plugs. This spring can fall out without you seeing it. When you put the boot back on, there is a gap...to spark. The boot screws on to the high tension lead, so they can be unscrewed and replaced. Check for a new boot at you local automotive store. If it screws on you are good to go. If it is a crimped style then you will need to bear the hight tension lead. I like the one piece ones that are molded to the high tension leads. Just unscrew the lead from the ignition coil and replace the whole thing... Also I side gap my plugs.
