Hello Dawgs! Looking for a Linhai clone engine new or used running assy for my 07 JMstar 250 that was bought in 07 from a E-bay dealer the engine crank broke 3 months later due to poor crank metal defect the bike was covered for 1 yr. was running great and fun to ride.. The seller promised me a replacement for over 6 mos i called and called every week and got the run around ETC and then he just vanished (No names) and is no longer in existence to my knowledge so i Sadly abandoned my China Scoot in the shed in august 07 due to lack of parts. I have searched all over and gave up.. I just took it out today washed it and have the busted motor apart with Bent valves, and sheared crank. I would like to know if anyone has a Linhai clone engine engine Used or can suggest where i can get one for a reasonable price W/O Carb and starter. Well i have found one on line store with a complete motor here www.scooterpartsplace.com/250cc-Water-Cooled-Scooter-Engine.aspxIt's exactly what i need but Over $1100 Shipped! 90% of the scooter's Cost and value so not practical for me to spend that much. Would be happy for spend $500 max really. I even thought of adapting a GYC 150cc To it being they are plentiful for around $300 to $400! Why the Linhai clone engine shortage? Any help to save my scooter from scrap would be greatly appreciated. Dennis

Dude, sorry buy I would Scrap it, there is nothing you can do to survive your disaster. Please try to sell it as a parts Scooter, even then you will probably not get an offer. Start from new with a name brand scooter. sorry, nothing good to to encourage you, Please don't take this as a negative condemnation of the Chinese Scooters, I have 2 of them that now are running great after 2 years of modifying and de-bugging the numerous problems. Just accept the fact you had a bad experience. Let it go to some other rider that has "NEW ENERGY" and maybe lots of MONEY, Good luck.

Thanks for the replies I won't scrap it just yet, I know it's a cheapo scooter. it got n my MC License and $1,400 miles logged! I was so disgusted with it when the seller left me hanging, and it was a Fairly new model before Reflex clones a nice looking bike (Will post Pic soon) So Parts were almost impossible then, Well it sat a few years and i have regained interest again in it. Not that money is an issue Sure could Dump $1000 into it for that New one But it's Not Worth it being it's worth $1200 running. I'm certain Someone somewhere out there has another scooter similar with other major problems with a good engine i hope soon will show up one day. the engine i need is the exact one in the $1099 Photo the other $699 one has a different wheel gear mount box though the main engine is the same. I wish the Reflex engine would fit! Sure some welding and wiring it could work but would it be worth it? the Price is Ideal for this though.. I am looking into getting a decent real bike soon but would like to get this going again for fun rides. ;D Thanks, Dennis

Hey There again Dawgs Thanks to 260orbust for the Tip to www.thefind.com was a great help! Well No luck on any complete engines @ a good price However i do Think i can Get the main needed components to fix it with some work.. Crankshaft from= Scooter Dynasty= $169.00 Motopartsmax.com= (Bare head) none avail complete. $185.95 Valves for the head= $49.95 Will have to Swap springs and can ETC I can do it. So far $305.89 W/O the gasket set Well as long as i can locate a correct Service manual to get the Timing chain Right i should be set GY6 150s are a dime a Dozen when i search for scooter engine on the bay but not much when 250cc is entered.. Thanks again i may try to repair it being the head and crank are shot all else is fine. Anyone have experience with either of the two Sites for parts? Scooter Dynasty Motopartsmax.com If i ever get another scooter i think it will be a Suzuki Burgman! I will never buy another knock off again! But this one will be a good local run around bike! If all is good i will give it a shot! Dennis

Dennis, Have you tried craigslist for cheap used 260cc scooters? Maybe you could swap engines? There's a 2008 Lance listed here in San Diego for $500. Looks brand new - owner is probably tired of messing with it. gary

Hi Gary thanks,
Sure I check that along with E-bay daily now Hoping for a $350 to 500 Complete engine shows up to no avail.
Sure i would take a $500 Scooter and trouble shoot the bugs out But I'm on the East coast NJ None ever any good cheap really..
How come soo Many GYC 150s? Well this bike was available with a 150cc I wonder Eliminate the Liquid cooling and fan and i guess change the CDi?? I think it will bolt right up?
Just i have Disk brakes and most are Drum types on E-bay.

Good luck to you. I was in the same boat with a broken motor. If you go all out and replace the piston be aware they came in different sizes, found this out the hard way. It maybe a Linhai 257cc clone motor but they are all not the same, which can be frustrating. I did like Widehide suggested to you, and just sold it as is. After a few months of back and forth ordering parts, and other things, it just wasn't worth the investment of time and money for me. Plus I had my SYM sitting there ready to ride. My suggestion is if you must fix this bike continue to look for a fully assembled working motor. Whatever you decide good luck to you

Thanks Jim, Yea I'm afraid of getting Some close but some other Chinese similar parts that may not fit. The Piston and cyl are in good enough shape though the head , Crank and Valves are toast. Well I'm Facing about $450 in parts Which would be fine if i knew this would be all i need and you know it may just be a bad investment also. I was in hope to fix it and Sell it for $1000 Well OK here's a Second Option Is to Discard the 250cc Water cooled And Downgrade to a 150cc Air cooled $300 to $400 Complete New all day long on E-bay and other sites? This was available in 150cc and 250cc I think it will bolt right up and wondering if this is a better option. any thoughts on how much would need to be done? Well could still use it around town. Thanks, Den

Hey again Dawgs, I was Near my Shed with my Camera Handy so i've Taken a few Shots of My Broken scooter that's been sitting. around for you to see. Scoot in the shed 1 img827.imageshack.us/img827/7283/scooter1.jpgScoot in the shed 2 you can see it's in Mint shape! I even have a Second set of Full body faring's New in Blue that was sent with it. img266.imageshack.us/img266/8382/frontvt.jpgThe engine sitting in the basement img841.imageshack.us/img841/6060/linhaiengine.jpgWell i've found a guy in California that rebuilds these engines and i was quoted $700 + SH&H. Still not economical to repair this just yet Being more than 3/4 the Current Value of the bike. My Best bet would be a good Used engine, If any one near NJ that has one for a reasonable price i would be interested.. Thanks, Dennis

Dennis - I think you are right to keep looking for a used engine from a scooter that's been wrecked or whose owner has become frustrated and just wants to get rid of the scoot. I've seen them advertised here for $500. Maybe as the cold weather season approaches more ads will pop up.

I'm really not that to far from you but due to a recent accident. I lost use of my left hand. Nothing serious but about a 4 to 6 month recovery. If I had transportation, I would have offered to help possible rebuild the engine.
How do you know that it's the crank and if it is just the crank and no other damage, then it shouldn't be that hard to rebuild the engine.

Hello again Quicksilver, Wow I really Appreciate your Generous offer! Sorry about your hand, I hope you have a Speed Recovery. and your able to ride again! When the Engine failed back in 07 I tore it apart within a few days and Wow it was Worse than i imagined! I had detailed Photos but now lost and the engine was reassembled. I carefully inspected what went wrong i have auto mechanic experience from 10 years ago not expert i found out the cause. the Variator roller area was so densely packed with Grease it was like an Unbalanced load causing severe vibration to the splined shaft that also drives the Timing chain that Severed @ the crank before the timing gear @ around 45 Mph on my trip of 45 miles Just a jerk and pop than shut off well: Being a non Clearance motor the Piston slapped the Valves damaging the head/ Valves crank. Found this site www.powersportsmax.com They seem to have everything that would be needed to get this going again, Though i'm Not sure if it's a good Investment? Mainly no guaranty the parts will be exact being Chinese parts with some inconstancy? 1 Crank Shaft for 250cc Chinese Yamaha Water Cooled CVT Engine $186.99 2Cylinder Head for 250cc Linhai Yamaha Water Cooled Engine $185.99 (Bare none complete) 3Valve Assembly for 250cc Linhai Yamaha Water Cooled Engine $49.95 4Cylinder Gasket for 250cc Linhai Yamaha Water Cooled Engine $22.95 $445.80 Total They have a complete engine $999.00 Being the Scooter is only worth $maybe $1200 it's a lot to put into it Thanks again,

Well not sure if this OK to do but
I think i will be Looking into another bike And considering unloading this for Best offer to who will come and take it Fix it part it whatever I'm Done with it sadly into it for $1800 1,400 Miles on the clock and Stored in a shed since new on 07.(See Pics Above)
I have reinstalled the engine it was kept in the basement since new along with the tank and carb drained of fuel so no bad carb or rusted tank they are perfect! Black and have a full Blue metallic body fairing set new never used!
Everything is mint otherwise needs a Linhai or another engine that may fit And it's a 250cc liquid cooled with remote start ETC This was trouble free unlike many scooter until this problem
Would anyone in the NJ Area be interested here? many good people here so i thought i will offer it to anyone here Make a reasonable offer! before E-bay or craigslist

Hi Guys, Just wanted to chime in on the subject of places to buy parts. I've bought parts for my 54b from both motorpartsmax.com and powersportsmax.com. They delivered exactly what I ordered in a reasonable time. The only place that I've had trouble with is roketapartsonline.com. They shipped a cable after (10 days) I cancled the order. And it never got to my house. Out $40 including shipping. You live you learn. LOL

Thanks ladycat34,
I have talked to the guys over @ powersportsmax and they seem to be safe So if i do decide to repair it i will be ordering from them if i can fix it reasonably vs Replacing the motor which is the best bet due to the extent of the damage.

Great to know that you have an engine to get the scooter back up and running.
It is just too bad you could not get it really really cheap.

Thanks Engine in transit to arrive the 20Th! so i should have it running by Saturday if all goes well.
Sure i could possibly Find another complete Scooter that has other minor issues with this engine for several hundred more and fix it Of coarse I'd would still have this scooter sitting in perfect shape W/O motor. Too good to junk and not good enough to sell so this at least is cheaper than buying another scoot but Now i can use it again ;D $99 yr insurance too
