This is a QJ 50cc/150cc bike being converted into a 260cc. Should be a blast and very fast as it will weigh in about 200 pounds less then the normal 260 units. A lot of it is already done and I wondered which section of the Forum would be appropriate. Custom Builds is closed only to a select few. We put the Hot rod Black QJ in the Show and Tell. Anyway here are so pics of the 260cc build. Has anyone tried this yet?

You might also want to post this over on the scooter rebels forum, they have a section devoted to engine swaps.

Very ambitious undertaking. I am interested in seeing the finished project and hearing how it performs. You do realize that the average 260cc scoot is around 376 pounds. I would guess your scoot will come in around 200+ pounds.

One thing I see from your pictures is that you're still using the 50cc brakes. I strongly recommend you upgrade to a larger disc. Likewise I suspect that the front shocks will bottom out when you hit a pothole at 60+, so you should probably upgrade them as well.

Holy frame flex Batman, that first corner should be something to remember. I hope there's bracing in there for the horsepower and speed torquing. I remember one of the first problems AMA roadrace builders had in the 70s was windup where the tires and frame bit and then unsprung with obvious results.

Rear Brake is a 260 Unit and the front End is 150cc. I try to dodge potholes thats why we moved down here from NY and this front end works fine at 70mph I know firsthand. We Welded in a new carrier and added some crossbracing twisting is not a problem.
Oh and... Bashan. We just positioned the radiator and are setting up the fan and plumbing now.

1smf, have a bone for going for it. I say post it in the show and tell section. Maybe a mod will move it when you are done. And don't forget the video!

I'd post it in the 'HOLY SHXX HOW FAST AM I GOING?!?!?!' section. Or the 'Here, hold my beer and watch this' section

Most likely we are a bit ahead of you. We are a B&M shop in Newnan GA. No need for stupid comments and you are right the Radiator is going between the frame. This project will work and work well when it is done. As Far as the lifts they motorcycles are made by company a company Handy - www.handyindustries.com/

well that is pretty neat. please keep us informed about how you are doing on it. since it is a 250 now, I'll move it to the 250 category. But this might be a great candidate for the "Custom Build" category too.

Most of the Wiring is done. Added hydraulic rear brake and master for the rear disc. Today we fit the Radiator and Cooling fan - Top View, the battery has been moved to seat bucket leaving a lot of room for air to come in from the front - This is the Side View. The belly pan covers almost the entire mod with an opening for the fan to exhaust hot air - Also Wired in a water temp gauge -

With the radiator mounted like that you are going to be 100% reliant on the fan to cool the engine. That is not optimal on an electrical system that started with minimal excess capacity.

Not exactly, We are reworking the front intake behind the front wheel to scoop air to the bellypan.

So how did it ride, handle and stop? Is ground clearance an issue? It looks kind of low or is that just an optical illusion? Nice burnouts.

I was trying to envision it going over a speed bump. The fan looked alright-sort of- I was just wondering if they had angled the motor funny and compromised clearance. Thanks for the input JR.

Horsepower is how hard you gonne hit a wall, torque is how much of the wall you gonna take with you. Enjoy your rapedscooter.

KZ, Too much top end speed right now not enough out of the hole. but we can fix that. Ground Clearance is no issue at all.
Jr., Thanks for the computer fan advise. Bring it on, to Twist and Gone, lets see how well those fans of yours blow.

With the fan running we are reading 13.48 volts dc at the Battery and 14.2 when the fan is off. It is rewired off the temp sending unit with the addition of a relay and no longer have the fan wired directly to the battery. The CFM of the of the stock fan is more then 2xs that of a computer fan. I am also using a high quality racing coolant .

Jr,
I really am not into you telling me how we should build this bike. I really don't get it, you seem to want to overwrite everything I am posting (and with an exclaimation point after every sentence as if you are yelling it) stating my way is wrong and you have all the answers.
So where can I see the build up of this bike you built? Is it in this forum somewhere? Maybe I can get some pointers.

Okay I thought you had done this conversion (Swap before).
I have pretty good access to Linhai, the US warehouse is about an hour away from our shop. We are a Linhai dealer. This is for lack of a better term a mutt Half Linhai and Half QJ.
Linhai, QJ and CF Moto are the only three Chinese Mainland companies with any quality control and in my opinion the only 3 really worth bothering with.
Our Swap project will be rewritten with lots of pics. We did some things that you may find interesting.

Amazing build 1SMF. I always wanted to do this swap but never ran across the right deal. Did you just use the 260 harness and plug into the stock ignition? So clean it almost looks stock!
