Hey everyone, this is my first post and I just wanted to say how grateful I am to have found this forum. I'm no mechanic and I have very little background in small motors. This forum and it's knowledge will be immensely helpful, what a relief.
So I just had my new Roketa MC-54-250B delivered from MrScooters.com a couple of days ago. Today was my first opportunity to get it unpacked and set up.
After reading through the manuals I got down to business. I first installed my windshield, put on my rearviews, and hooked up the battery. Long story short my scooter has no power(lights etc) and won't start. I checked my battery and it was dead so I took it to Autozone this afternnon and had them charge it up for me. It charged fully, so I went home and hooked it up again, but still nothing. My kill switch was turned on and I also checked the fuse by the battery to make sure it was good.
I'm feeling devastated guys, please help, where do I begin?

doi: Congratulations on the purchase of your new headache/hobby. You will find that these machines have a lot of maintenance that you were not expecting. Before I address the question you have directly, you should go to this site ( x1scooters.com/scooterpdi.html) and do as much of what is suggested as you can. The more you do the better off you will be in the long run. As to your problem, There is a fuse under the seat that is blue. Pull the fuse out and check it to see if it's any good or not. Then throw the thing on the ground and stomp on it like an 5 year old throwing a hissy fit and put in a quality fuse. Also, the clips that hold that fuse in are prone to be loose. Pull them out of the holder and take some pliers and gently squeeze them back together before pushing them back in the holder and re-installing your new fuse. That was the problem I had when my scooter was giving me the exact symptoms that you are describing. I hope this has been of help. Live free and scoot.

Hello doi: I am sure that we can get you up and running soon. I do have a few questions: Does the engine turn over, or is it just dead when you turn the key? You need to compress the brake (rear preferably) when you hit the starter switch. Is the scooter on the center stand or side stand? Did you fill it with gas? There is a thin wire along with both the black and red wires that hook to the battery, make sure the thin wire (with in-line fuse) is connected to the + terminal (red wire) Make sure the ground wire is connected and is touching bare metal. There is a little screw in the boot for the spark plug make sure that is tight. Check the wires off the coil (follow the plug wire back) and check all the wire connections. Do these things and then post your results.

If you turn your key to "on" and get no lights, you checked the battery, fuses and ground wire. It is time to work your way from ignition switch back. Probably just got a loose wire somewhere. I feel for you, it's got to be a frustrating getting a new scooter and it is broke from the git-go. If your scooter has the remote start, if you have not used it, my advice is dont, can compound your problem. When I got mine I took the remotes and put them in a drawer, never touched them. If you did try to start with remote that could be part of your problem. Good luck.

Hello again, Thanks so much for responding so quickly with your advice. I'm picking up some new fuses this afternoon and I will follow all of the instructions you guys provided me once I get home. I'll let you know how it goes shortly.
Allworld, to answer your questions: My engine doesn't make a sound of any kind no turnover, just dead. I didn't compress either brake and I used the side stand. It was filled with gas and as I mentioned before I will be going home tonight and checking the fuses and wires like you mentioned. Wish me luck, talk to you soon:) Thanks again.

If you didn't compress either brake you may not have tripped the starter. Set the kill switch to run. Turn the ignition to run. Hold the left brake in about 1/2 way then hit the starter. See if that works. That's how most start. Do you have a kick starter and it still won't start? Oh yeah - take the battery out of and hide the remote starter.

Yup, ditto what Astro said - you have to squeeze one or the other brake handle for the starter to work. Thats a safety feature. On some scoots including my SYM the side stand must also be up, but you still need to squeeze one of the brake handles to get the starter to work.
Hopefully, that is all there is to your problem! Gary

Gary - about the depress the brake thing. I was the first person to take the local MSF course on a scoot. The instructor wanted to see if he could do the box on my old Matrix 150. I kind of smiled to myself when he couldn't get it started. He didn't know about squeezing the brake.

On some of the larger displacement scooters, there is a kill switch built into the side stand, this is in part so you can't rev the engine while the rear tire is in contact with the ground. It also insures it is in the up position when riding.
It is a good idea to always put your scooter up on the center stands (IMO)

Ya, not many know what to do with a scooter. I figure, on all the scooters I have owned, the very first thing I do naturally, is pull in the brake before starting.. Why? Well if the idle is not correctly set, well the scooter can take off without you knowing what is happening. But most would probably not know this from the very first scooter.
