This is a project me and my friend Anthony (aka Iceman) put together the last couple of weeks. Theme was simple. Turn the Roketa MC-17 Retro 139QMB into a sweet rat rod style scooter that would keep up with a pack of 150s reasonably. Mission accomplished! ;D A quick photo log from start to finish. What it used to look like. The white one.. Here was the original photoshop. Stripping it down and replacing the steering stem. Painted rims and white walls. New ZTR EGR Capoffs. 47mm Enviromoto Stage 4 Powerpack. More assembly. A little more tweaking to do but as it sits now top speed is over 50mph. Iceman has a seriously sweet rat rod MC-17

I have a question regarding the EGR valve. Does this decrease performance when it is hooked up? Cuz, i'll stop my up if it'll give me some more top end.

It doesnt do anything more than help you dress up the engine bay by removing all the emissions crap you dont need when you install a free flow air filter.

interesting. Since I have a freeflow now, i am not reburning the gas I suspect since the return line isnt going to the airfilter... So its not doing anything right?

Now tell me that you did not pose that scooter so that the web page was showing on the back of the truck. Shameless advertising.

Honestly I just pushed it out and snapped the pic without thinking about it. I dont think I could have planed it any better either. Have you seen any of our scooter club videos? People think I spend a lot of time editing them but I just slap everything together in the time line as it happend randomize the transfers and pick a song and trim it without doing anything else. Funny how the universe works aint it.

VERY NICE!
I'm a sucker for anything "rat"... You can't beat matte-black, red wheels and wide-whites on anything: T-bucket, deuce coupe, lead sled, Harley, or scooter. Very FAST small engine too!
I'll bet a number of dawgs and dawgettes with this style scoot (lots of 50's and 150's out there) will be doing similar mods! Especially when they acquire enough road-rash to warrant Bondo and new paint!
Flat primer-red or gray would be good too, but the black is tops for eye-appeal. A wild exhaust would be a good cosmetic touch, but not if it interferes with the great performance you're getting now! These things just seem to cry out for brushed aluminum, heat-wrap tape, transparent-color wires and hoses, etc.
Please keep us posted on how the whitewall paint holds up. You can find whitewalls for 10-inch wheels if you dig around, but for 12 and 13-inchers you about MUST paint them. And I think many riders with larger wheels will want to try this.
I suppose you could do a rat-scoot using an "Asian" style ride, but the "Italian" style is much more in-character. You're only missing one item... a "Mr. Horsepower" ceegar-chewin' woodpecker... or a "Moon-Eyes" decal! LOL!
My kind of ride! Enjoy it...

Thanks Leo,
The whitewalls are real and I can get them in any size you need. We had a little bog on the bottom end and swapped out the pilot jet for the stock one and it fixed it right up. The torque spring was a little heavy for this application so we swapped the stock one back in and installed 3 6.5G, and 3 8.5G rollers and the acceleration is good with killer top end. Just gotta be careful not to ride it wide open all the time.

Here is the real question.
Since we all have 150s now he wants to trade this in on my MC-54 150 I just put a new motor in.
How much would something like this go for? I dont usually sell scooters and im not sure what the market will bring for this scooter.
MC-17 $800 after taxes new Performance mods $350 Tires $125 Paint $30
$1305 invested.
Less than 300 miles on rebuild 1500 on the bike.

not as much as you think? modding actually makes it less sellable as they fear a hack did the work imo. but the 54 is worth it

Mainly the 50cc scoots. Around here a good running big bored 50 based scooter would bring more than a stock one.

Alternately, you could bolt a 150 onto this bike and keep the sweet whitewalls.
It'd be like my frankenscoot, except clean and pretty.

It might sell for more if the right buyer is found, but the field of "right buyers" is smaller, much smaller when serious mods are done. A person should mod because they want to mod, not for potential payback at sales time. It will prevent a lot of disappointments

It was kind of unexpected that he would want to trade it in after we finally got it going good. However he told me he always had a eye out for the MC-54 and once he and his wife rode it they were hooked.
I told him I would give him $600 in trade and $600 boot for the MC-54. However I really dont have a use for the MC-17 and It may go up on craigslist or ebay to the highest offer.
I would hope it would bring $800 considering the condition.

No offence but there's nothing RAT ROD about this i don't see any rust at all. A RAT ROD is where you take a bunch of crap and make it into something!!!

Rat rod is a counter culture. It's ment to be driven. It's the opposite of a "Hot rod" which is highly polished and hardly driven.
