Hello AzRon: You have to turn the key, but DO NOT PUSH THE KEY in. it will pop open may need a little pressure on the seat to help it the first couple times.

AzRon, like Allworld said, be careful to not push in on the key as you turn it. If you do so, you go into the steering column lock function. A counter-clockwise turn of the key as you apply light pressure on the seat (if even needed) should allow the latch to pop.

Hello AzRon: The seat latch issue is sort of a right to passage with the Linhai. But do as we say turn the key counter clockwise, do not push the key in, only apply a little pressure to the seat if need to take pressure of the latch them selves.
I am concerned that the windshield is under the seat, are you sure? Mine windshield was in a separate box and wouldn't fit under the seat, the items under the seat where the battery, screws, owners and parts manuals, tool kit, mirrors and handle bar end caps. Good luck.

Oh my....do I feel your pain. I had a problem on Wednesday with mine. My 2nd latch on the back of the seat never worked, and the spring never worked to it either....what happens on Wednesday? The back latch caught, and I had no way of getting the seat open. I cursed, smashed fingers, and 40 minutes later, had it open. How did I do it? I don't know how yours is, but what I did was carefully pry up on the seat (the side latch worked fine).....carfully pried it up until I could slip a pair of needle nose pliers in. I reached down into the seat latching mechanism (difficult, but with patience, I got to it), and I popped the side latch line out of its holder so I had access to the rear latch line (directly below the side latch...can't get to it without popping the side latch line off). I then popped it out of its holder (the little plastic piece that holds the actual line in place)so I could pull on the line. The little ball and line was still secure in its spring latch device. So I was able to reach up under the scoot, and grab the rear latch line and pull...while pulling, I put light pressure on the rear, and sure enough, it came undone. I still have a very sore thumb from smashing it.
Good luck, just think of any solution you think might work and try it. That is what I had to do....and I finally found the right one for me. I didn't break the seat, but was afraid I would by prying up on it so much....but all is well now.

YMMV, but with mine I find that if I turn to key to off, get off the scoot, place my one hand directly over the latch and press down, and use my other hand to turn the key first CW to the "on" postiion then CCW to open the latch it pops right open. The trick for me seems to be in being off the bike and coming CCW from the on position.
Edited because I left out an important step.

wxguru, good info. The rear latch on mine has never worked either but now I have a clue as to what to do if it ever catches. Thanks

Sorry abut that mis-info the windshield is not under the seat thee fasteners for the windshield are tho The switch from the off posittion has a little play in it CCW, to access the fork lock you have to push in and turn, it goes to another stopping position, where you have to have the wheel turned to the left fully to engage the lock. I have tried to turn the key CCW without pushing the key in i also push down on the seat while doing this no luck, very frustrating Thank you all so far for the info will try it some more and may have to resort to more sterner methods ;D Oh BTW the passenger hand hold and the backrest mounting bracket restrict access to the latch sooo... Hey,where do you live? I'll drive over and open it.You have to be OFF the seat. put the key in the switch.try this .turn switch on. now turn the switch Off.dont worry bout pressing down on the seat, that is to relieve the pressure on the rear. dont touch it this time.since it is on off>DONT push the key in ,simply keep a little pressure on the key turning as you did to off,but a little father counterclockwise..LOOK at the rear of the seat as you are doing this simple thing. the seat should move.It is not GOING TO POP UP.I will he loose however and you open it by moving it slightly one way or the other.... I explained this theother daybut perhaps you think its going to pop open. It does release however. wildbill

AzRon, there are two latches on your seat. One on each side. As I think you know, the seat is split just behind the rider back rest. The rear section does not pop up, but you have to remove two fasterners and remove it to install your battery. My seat has always worked smoothly and pops up about an inch with a turn of the key. Can you tell if either side latch is releasing? It seems unlikely that both would be jammed.

Thanks for the info. That's totally different from my Linhai Mainstreet 300. The 300 seat and front storage boxes are arranged just like the Yamaha Majesty.
