So, today I was going to take my 50cc scoot (TaoTao ATM50-A1) to a 'big' 50 mile tour through the everglades.
I probably did the stupidest thing ever!
Well first of all, the road was from Google maps. Turns out that the road no longer was there, so I wanted to take a second road home, wasn't there neither!
So I decide to take the next available road back home, but did not want to return on the same road from where I came from, because I already was driving on the road for almost 2 hours!
I thought I might as well do the trip, rather than returning.
Turns out I had to make a 200 mile trip today!
Crocodiles laying on the road, one of them 6ft away from where I was going! That was scary!
Middle of the trip, the temperature drastically dropped 25 degrees, and became cloudy. I was only wearing a t-shirt!
If that wasn't enough, it started raining as well, somewhere halfway the trip, so no returning possible.
And by the time I was by the end of the everglades, there was only one way home, the highway!
That sucked!
I think I seldomly have found myself to be in such a sucking situation!
The only good was that the Tao lasted the whole trip, and on the highway, I had wind in the back, driving between 42 and 47MPH.
I swear, I thought I was going to die!
First of all, the cold, I was shivering, like really really cold (had only a T-shirt on)
and second, if the bike would have broken down, it would have taken me about 20-30 hours of walking to get back home!
I was driving WOT almost all the time to get home before dark!
Took me 6 hours to get home, with 4 pitstops: 2 fuel ups, 1 lunch break, and 1 cop stopped me for driving a 50cc scoot on the shoulder of the highway. He told me I had to drive on the street.
Turns out most of the time I was driving 47,5MPH, not too far off the highway minimum speed of 50MPH. 3 other patrol cars passed me by without asking questions or doing weird or so...
On my trip, I also got lucky twice:
1- I broke my speed record, again! A truck was passing by, catching the wind, and my Tao did 50MPH for a while on GPS!
The meter was horizontal, far beyond where the meter goes!
Crazy!
I didn't think the bike was capable of that!
2- My gasoline lasted to the red, before the next gas station! I barely made it!
So finally home, seriously undercooled (feel sick/feverish), full of black asphalt (seemingly along the way some ashes where falling out of the skies from burned everglades, sore shoulders (as the steering bar is too far forward for a tall man), and 300km ahead on the odo, I'm hitting the hay!
Sure is the stupidest thing I've ever done!
