Ok, Been lurking on this board for a few years and finally found a decent (I think) used scooter so I pulled the trigger and bought it. It is a 2008 JMStar MC-13-150, 504 miles a couple minor scuffs on it from being garaged but never laid down or anything. Zero maintenance had been done on it when I got it. Dude was asking $1100 and we settled on $950. 4 oil changes now since I bought it and Iridium plug.... Every light has been swapped for SMD LED's including turn signals and they all work excellent, MUCH brighter than the stockers and super low power consumption. Right headlight is stock left one got replaced with an H4 low beam HID and that also is a HUGE upgrade over the stock lamps. It lights up houses next to me and road signs 100ft or so ahead of me. Top speed right now is about 58-59 mph (chinometer says 65) on level ground and it struggles past 55ish, The last 3-4 mph takes a while. Not looking for any more speed really I think that 55 is fine considering I weight 215 pounds just looking to get her up to 45 a little quicker and tidy up the scoot a bit. Airbox and extra hoses look like crap. I mainly drive to work and back on it which is about 12 miles one way and mostly 45mph speed limits and I am currently getting 76 mpg out of it which I am thrilled with again considering I weigh 200+ pounds I though it would be less. I know there are "good" and "bad" china scooter manufacturers and could not remember which one JMStar was...After seeing my belt and plug I think they are on the good side. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long read....Will try to snag a few pics of her when I get a chance. Ok, Finally got all my parts in and attacked the scoot. Removed airbox and emissions canister....Replaced with UNI filter Replaced ALL fuel and vac lines Did valve adjustment Put PCV on crankcase Re-jetted carb to 115 main Replaced rollers with 12g sliders Big difference all the way around with the new parts. Acceleration from 0-40 is much improved and about the same from 40+. UNI filter makes the engine noise louder and the PCV itself is noisy also but definitely not unbearable. Engine RPM went from around 5500 under acceleration to 6500 which helps put it deeper into the powerband. Nothing really unusual to report since it seems my results are a lot like everyone else that does the same upgrades. Fuel pump is next since it has a high failure rate and replacement is cheap and then maybe an el cheapo ebay exhaust. I took a bunch of pics to show what was removed and how it looks when your done: First are a couple pics of the overall scoot... Next is a pic of where I mounted the tach and also shows my HID switch Rear view without airbox, Really opens it up under there PCV valve...added filter and tape to help quiet it down, It's fairly loud if left open. Inside view after removing emissions and extra hoses Carb with new lines...Had to use the clear line because the black stuff was too thick to fit between the rear barb and the carb casing. Finally a shot of all the emissions junk and airbox after removal I'm trying to get a good pic of the difference between the HID and normal lights but my camera wants to auto-correct every damn photo so it never turns out right. Going to use my phone and shut off the flash and see if that works. It is about 300% brighter with the HID than with the stock bulbs....Amazing difference Filled up yesterday and need to check mileage after the upgrades, Not sure what affect they are going to have.

I will also say good job and your using it as it should not at wide open throttle. To get it up to speed a little more quickly you will need a little more RPMS and you can control that with weights. Rollers= For every 1 gram up or down it will change your rpms by 500-600 Sliders= For every 1 gram up or down it will change your rpms by 200-350
Now once you find the Roller weights you like for take off and top end and you want to go to Sliders get 1 GRAM HEAVIER than the rollers you like. The RPMs will almost be the same BUT you will get a little more top end being 1 gram heavier and keep your take off the same WIN WIN. Wile

If the stock are heavier then I will need to get a different set of sliders obviously. I'm going to wait until my tach gets here from China before I do anything though, I want to know what RPM I am running now so I have a reference point. Thanks Wile!

Love the pics of your scoot. She is just like mine She is a great ride. The only troubles she gives me is the ones i cause. My exhaust went out quick as well. Check your swingarm bolts and exhaust bolts often. I had a swingarm bolt snap while riding her. Also the right-side mirror i have to keep shimming to get it to stop moving....

The exhaust is just bothering me because it's broken inside somewhere, It makes a ringing/rattling noise especially on throttle that makes the scoot sound like a POS. Funny you mention the mirror, Mine did the same thing until I put a thick oring between the base and spacer and it hasn't happened again Kinda scary about the swingarm....Would not want that to happen

Very good. I would add a can (or plastic bottle or something) to the end of that vent hose, so oil doesn't get all over your new cool set up

you ever find out what your weight are. I have the same scooter and tossed mine in the trash before I could find out the weight on them.

It's another brother from another Chinese mother! My muffler fell apart on the inside too, big time. I put a crap $99 system on and it runs sssooooooooo much better. I'm 225 pounds and this baby whisks me away like I never though it could and holds medium grades just fine. I'd get a replacement muffler with a silencer - I think some back pressure is important. Installing it can be a chore, and either I got the wrong part or its even worse if you have a 'P' motor like mine.

Very good. I would add a can (or plastic bottle or something) to the end of that vent hose, so oil doesn't get all over your new cool set up So far no oil is even making it's way up the tube so I am just going to keep an eye on the filter material and if it starts getting dirty I will worry about making a catch can. Stock rollers were 14g.

itdhpp - The Ebayexhaust is my plan if mine gets worse, I figure for $99 as long as it works it's a good deal.
I did not get a manual with mine....sorry

I would love to get my hands on the manual for the Lance Duke Touring or for any style of the scooters similar to mine. I've found three manuals for the GY6 150cc engine but nothing for my scooter. I think it would just be nice for reference.

Ok....Finally found a way to get ACTUAL pics of HID....Crappy phone quality but at least you can see the difference. 1st pic is normal low beam running light Next one is high beam stock bulb: Then last is HID low beam + stock high beam: It is literally night and day difference.....Notice how you can't even see the yield sign in the 1st 2 pictures. The HID also lights up houses, people, cars etc next to you....It's probably the single biggest safety upgrade you could ever make.

Nice! Do your charging volts drop with those on? I wouldn't hate my stock headlights so much if I could actually adjust them. It has an adjuster but it just spins and does nothing. Needless to say I don't ride on back roads with no street lights at night, I'd have to go 10mph to avoid overriding the headlights, lol They say at night you should never ride faster than what would make you exceed your stopping distance for anything in your headlight range. Crap in the road can really sneak up on you that way...

I would remove the red thin air filter.Don't need it if you oil the other one.Too much foam. They use those dual stage filters for dirt bikes where a better filtration is needed. My 2 cents.

Ok...answer 1: My charging volts drop but only to about 12.5, All my other lights are LED so they don't put much of a drain on the system which leaves most of the output for the headlights. Answer 2: My adjuster was/is the same way, The pinion gear on the adjuster is crappy plastic and breaks if you turn the screw even a little too far. You can remove the adjuster unit (2 small screws) and adjust the main gear with a phillips screwdriver in the center of it. It is kind of a pain but at least you can still adjust it...We have the same scoot I think so yours should be the same way.

I'm keeping the pre filter for 3 reasons. It looks better than the black pod, I'm not going to oil my filter much (most of my driving is fairly clean surface roads) and I paid for the damn thing so I'm gonna use it =D

does anyone know if a H4 hid kit would work with a taotao 50? Not sure, Just hit ebay and search for an H4 bulb and look at the picture of it. If an H4 will work there will be a spring clip holding the actual bulb socket in the headlight housing (at least mine is this way). You would replace that whole socket with the H4 bulb. If you can post a pic of the back of your socket with the bulb removed I could tell you.

Quick update.....Checked mileage after upgrades and it didn't change at all. Which is great news since I have noticed a power increase and didn't have to sacrifice fuel economy.

I'm trying to figure out where the battery is on a 2008 Adventure 150cc Scooter. (I know nothing about this except it needs a new battery) My son is also trying to figure how to drain the gas out of it...It is flooded because it had to be turned on its side to get it home yesterday (bought it for my son) I know, that was stupid. He also needs to know where the spark plugs are. Is there a manual for this scooter? I read somewhere else that there is not. Thanks.

can you load a picture of the scooter??? I can only think of two places it might go under the seat or under the floorboard.

If the scooter is flooded you can remove the spark plug and crank the engine over to dry out the cylinder. To drain the gas out ( why?) you can remove the fuel tank or disconnect the fuel line from the tank and drain that into an appropriate container. Battery is in the floor under the panel. Spark plug is on the head of the engine. Sounds like you are cruising for a bruising. But I guess it's a good machine to learn on as any other.
