I am a long time lurker, first time poster here.
I own 2 motorized 2-wheelers, a 2000 Tomos Targa LX no-ped and a 2007 Chinese GY6.
I joined the 2-wheel revolution last year when I purchased the Tomos. At the time, I was looking for something, anything to liberate me. I bought the Tomos and rode the entire season. As unique and simple as the Tomos is, somewhere in the back of my mind I was yearning for the comparative luxury of Electric start, Hydraulic front disc brakes and the weather protection that a swing-through frame provides.
I started looking around and quickly realized that even used, Japanese, Italian and Taiwanese were still out of my price range. So I started doing some research on the ubiquitous Chinese Scooter. I made the decision that a guy like me who 1. has some mechanical ability, 2. has some patience and 3. does not depend on it as the sole method of transport could really benefit from the financial feasibility that these scoots offer.
I came across a posting on Craigslist for a 2007 Volano, the name of which I recognized as a local vendor. A phone call and a visit later, I took possession of this lightly used, but non-running scooter. I could not pass up the price. I figured that even if I had to throw $700-800 at it to get it where I want it, I was still light years ahead of a decade-old Japanese.
Caveat emptor and all the horror stories aside, I believe I know what I am getting myself into and figure it would be an adventure and a chance to twist some wrenches!
So the 2007 is branded "Volano", and we all know how useless the "Brand" name can be. I believe it was also advertised as the DLX 50, the little brother to the DLX 150. The registration lists the Manufacturer as Benzhou and the Model as YY50Q. I am reasonably certain it has a 139QMB (or some variation thereof).
As the machine is in non-running condition, and the weather is getting better out here on the West Coast, I need to get her on the road. I intend on doing an exhaustive PDI to see what I need to concentrate on.
I am looking forward to learning alot from this forum and hoping to contribute back as much as I learn from my trials and tribulations!
