have a sport 50cc gy6139. i dont use the electric starter much as battery is now dead, so can i use it with no battery in it? i know it will run with no battery but do i need to "black tape the positive cable so it dont contact anything as it still has output to it? i will get a battery, but for now i might just run it with out one, what do you all think?

Yes, leave everything connected as if the battery was good. But I bet some of your electricals will not work because some of them work off the battery. Alleyoop

Without a live battery you will have loss of power for your electrical parts. I was in the same situation a little while back and using turn signals, brakes, or horn would cause the headlight to dim.

The best thing to do is buy 1 at the auto parts store or motorcycle dealer. You may not use it often but the battery being good is better for your ignition system as well as the electricals. It puts more stress on the alternator and the whole system by underpowering it. You can end up with voltage problems from the regulator

so i hooked my battery back up after a year and half siiting in my barn, not sure why P.O unhooked it but after i went 7 miles or so i shut i down and lights stayed on so played around and found the battery was holding a charge and seems to be still holding one. so after kick starting it holding left brake i tried the started with no luck thinking it didnt work. my little boy (2yrs) wanted a ride so i gave him one i pulled the right brake and he was palying with the starter button and it turned over and started right up! so he figuered out i had to hold the right brake not left to start it with starter if i kick it i hold the left brake!!! are they all like this or did someone do somthing to mine? my longbo150 didnt matter what brake you hold when you started it!

ahaha that's a pretty awesome quirk! Almost an anti theft device.
Mine starts fine if you hold the left brake, or no brake at all. But if you hold the right one the electric start won't work.
I think it has something to do with my battery, as my left brake doesn't activate the brake lights, but the right does.
That probably doesn't help you, but I just thought I'd share my love of chinese scoot quirks!
