Hi there, My name is Nik and I live in Bismarck, ND. As all the scooters, I'm "import" as well. I grew up in Prague, Czech Rep, but I've been living in US for about 6 years now - that's why the czechmate user name. There's not very many scooters around in ND since it's so freakin' cold for 9 months of a year or so. So I've been looking at some online retailers but I'm getting just bad and worst reviews about the scoots and the seller as well. My dream is Suzuki Burgman 650 but it will remain just a dream - it's just freakin' too expensive. So I'm looking for something cheaper but reliable. As a teenager I had a 50cc, 2 speed Jawa Pionyr - I killed it. Since then I haven't had a bike so I'm not experienced in fixing stuff. Now I'm looking at Strada SS300 from scootersus.com. I will appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks for having this great forum!

Welcome to the group! As you are not that experienced fixing stuff you may wish to consider looking for a used honda Reflex, or Helix, or similar. If you are shaky at all on your ability to do your own repairs I don't reccomend you buy online without a competant repair shop nearby that will work on Chinese scoots. It may well be worth your time to save a bit longer and buy a more mainstream machine. I have seen decent used Honda Reflex's in my area for $2800. Styling is similar to the Burgman and the Strada SS300 and any Honda shop can help. If you said you were a mechanic my answer would have been different. There is another member from N. D. on here.

Howdy Nik! Welcome to the dawg pound! The Strada SS300 is sold under a variety of names, but they are the same scooter. Linhia-Yamaha Aeolus is another 'badge'. Scooterollie, one of the moderators on this forum has the Aeolus model and has done some write ups on it. You can find those with the search feature. I believe you can find that scooter at a number of dealers, www.scootertronics.com carries the Aeolus and is one the best of the internet dealers (my opinion, I bought from them and extremely pleased). I do suggest you read the 'Dealers, Good and Bad' thread before you spend any money at all!! Again, welcome to the pound, and happy winter up there in ND!! ;d

scootersus.com is Valley Scooters. Personally I think they are a good dealer and there have been many happy customers here that have bought through them. There have been recent examples of some unhappy customers on the forum however. I would buy from Valley but I am reasonably skilled at repairing. As I said if you question your ability to make repairs..(trust me no matter where you get an inexpensive scooter from it will need repair) then I recommend buying from a dealer or getting a used higher end machine that can be repaired locally like a Honda, Kymco, or Yamaha etc. Be sure to read this... scootdawg.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1181608486Aaron

Aaron, Thanks for all the information! That post for newbies is very cool. I realize that I'll have to do some fixin' on any of the Chinese scoots. I don't want to say I'm not gonna be able to though - I guess I'll have to learn. I'm just trying to find a decent scoot from a good dealer. I have checked motorcycle dealers here in ND for used ones but there's not much to pick from. Most of them usually sell 1 to 2 new scoots a year! I found used 250cc Tank Touring but it's already beaten pretty bad. I'll keep looking through the forums. Again, you're doing pretty good job for all the scooters enthusiasts like me. Thanks,
Nik

Do you know the other forum member from ND? I thought I did but he either moved or I was wrong!! Consider ordering from Bandit www.bandit-motorsports.com he is in Oregon and ships fully prepped ready to go. He is another good dealer. He has had complaints too. They all have but I stand by my impressions of them overall. He has a decent selection of 250 scoots as well. Tell me about your avatar picture. I have a Garrelli and a Motobecane. I have had as many as 9 mopeds at one time. Is that your Jawa??

Thanks guys for the welcome and for the dealer tip! The avatar is a re-make of Jawa 50 Pionyr (Pioneer) Guess what? It's made in China! There's just a sticker Jawa. It got nice Honda engine though. Here's more pictures: www.jawa.eu/news3/pionyr.html?lang=enHere you can look at the original Jawa Pionyr (this site is only in Czech): pincek.mysteria.cz/jawa-50-typ-555.phpYes, I had the old type. I was like 14 and I didn't take care of it much. What it killed was I didn't have money to get gas so we made a gas- paint thinner mix. It actually run for a while.

www.cbxmanmotorcycles.com is another dealer we like. Click that link, go to clearance scooters or whatever it's called. He has some decent prices on leftover Kymco's and will ship fully prepped high end scooters like the Kymco's to areas where there is no dealer. One of few who can do that. Aaron
