I have had my Bali 150 for four days now. I put regular in it. Dawg says the knocking noise I hear is from the low octane BUT I shouldn't put octane booster in as it will mess with carb parts making them goo. So short of sucking out the fuel, will the knocking hurt the bike during break in (hard break in)? Should I get the crap fuel out and re-tank with premium? I have a KYMCO People S-250 and I have the same noise. I have tried everything with no luck. The dealer told me: It's an exhaust noise that comes from the exhaust port design and it is normal for the KYMCO. I don't buy that but I have tried everything suggested here with no luck. I have not tried the lead additive. maybe I will do that. In short, there seems to be no negative effects from this noise other than my dislike for it. I have 2800 miles on it and it runs great. BTW, I have talked with other owners of KYMCO and they have the same noise. Another BTW. I have seen posted many times that the GY6 has a compression ratio under 10:1 and doesn't need high octane gas. check your manual and see what your compression is. Straight from the files of Jacine.

I to can vouch for seafoam Ive used it a couple time to clean out my carb I just put a couple ounces in the gas tank. Mike

Ok, the fuel change DIDN'T stop the pinging, rattling sound? WTF is this? It sounds like a non-metronomic sound, meaning it always sounds the same but it isn't a "paced" sound. It does sound like pinging as it is a deep growly knock. The scoot sounds wonderful and is performance is better than I expected but when you tromp on it the "ping" (or whatever it is) continues until you even your speed. Thoughts? it's not the fuel. I started a similar post on the Kymco and I likened the noise to a blender chopping up ice cubes. think about it. sounds right doesn't it. I had mine timed and it didn't help either. I'm going to try the lead additive and see.

I remember seeing a thread about using regular unleaded after the dealers warned of fowling plugs, and people where saying if the plug fowled it was cause the A/F mixture. This thread kind of contradicts those responses in that it insinuates running low octane causes harm to the engine.
I've always ran regular unleaded in mine, and never had any problems outside the brief clicking afterwards. I ride long distances too, and am going on 5KM.
EDIT: Looks like I was on to something..

Well, I'd suggest checking the center stand out as they can be loose and rattle like crazy. Many guys have had their muffler guts come loose causing rattling sounds. The plastic body parts tend to rattle a lot too.
The intake and exhaust valves might be set with too large of a gap which can make a rattling like sound too.
But rattling under load tends to imply a engine knocking which can be due to low octane fuel. The last time I suspected bad gas as a problem, I clamped off the gas line and pulled it loose and then unclamped it and drain the fuel tank. Then I hooked the fuel line back up and filled the tank with fresh good gasoline.

if your octane is low just add some toluene to the fuel you can get it at any paint store.
I used it in my vino after I upgraded my head to a polini 70cc
It would make a low octane ping at 45mph till I added the toluene then all was fine
I had put the highest octane in town 93 and it would still ping
but after my mix of 93 gas and toluene 109 octane
It would run smooth and fast .
toluene from what I heard is what they use in gas to increase the octane anyway
Ive checked all my rubber on the vino and it was fine no black came off of anything .

in my locality i have access to 93 octane fuel. my scoot doesn't hold much gas. so, why not the "good stuff"?

if your octane is low just add some toluene to the fuel you can get it at any paint store. toluene is some really nasty stuff. i've personally seen toluene eat through 1/2 inch of dried paint overnight. the next day that paint practically slid off the wood. toluene will eat, more like melt, styrofoam. do not, under any circumstances, splash any in your eyes. i did once and i'd rather have a coat hanger stuck in them. it's best to leave ol' "tuleo" alone and stick to gasoline.
