Hello to everyone I've been reading on this forum for about a week now since deciding I want to buy a scoot. Let me tell you how glad I decided to do a little research before just buying. I can't say how much this site has helped me from making a huge mistake. Seems like everything is "50 State Legal" out there even when its not. Still concerned as to what I can actually buy and get registered in CA since its important to me to do things the right way. I can't afford much mainly right around $2000.00. The commute to work is only at most 2 miles on 45 mph speed limit so I'm pretty settled on 150cc scoot as I'm sure that will more then make do. The only question is what brands can I safely look at. I live in Visalia so a Cen Valley club is up my alley. =0) Again this site has been a god send as to where to look what to think about and what to expect. Truly amazing I never thought something like this would exist.

Hey, welcome to the forum!!! For 2,000 you could get most of the better 150's out there, minus the big 4 (honda, etc). You might want to post a similar thread in the the 150cc section, but we can help you some here, just not as much trafic in this section ;D You could look at Lance (which I own and is CARB certified => CA legal), fly, TN'G, and Baron, they are all made by Znen which is one of the best in china. Also, I would look at Kymco, you might be able to find something in your price range, maybe overstock or 06/07 new. Also, look at you local craigslist/pennysaver/etc for some used name-brand scooters, they can often be found for good deals, but you have to look a little. Just my 0.02

Hey Aero-
I've been following your chronicle of the GSR quite closely. I mainly posted to this thread cause I wanted fellow Cali scooter folks to respond as I think you all would know better then most what I can get registered. I'm leaning to GSR myself now after following your threads and the great things from SF I feel comfortable handing them my money. I'm just still just EXTREMELY glad I found this place or I would have a Roketa that I couldn't get registered.

LA is becoming a great place for bikes, scoots, and motorcycles. Traffic simply doesnt move.

jymis,
Welcome, I live not too far from you, have you checked out the scooter store on Tulare avenue in Tulare? It's downtown near the Carls Junior. They sell Tanks if you are interested in a Tank, but the good thing is that it is a local store and it services the scooters also. Last time I went by there was several months ago and I think they are still doing business.
Also they are a DMV licensed dealer so you leave the store with your registration.

Hey Cali Scoot Heads!
I love the fact that there are members of a Scoot club here in Cali!
I've found the best scooter for myself, but, my sister is still looking!
"medman" - Do you know the exact name of the dealer in Tulare? I would like to look into them! She only want to get a 150, but I think she would do best with a 250...
If DMV is inc., it would be the best choice for her!

Hey, welcome Cheermom! I'm sure your sister will find a good scooter. Sometimes I wish I would have got a 250, but most other times I'm glad I got the 150, it all depends on the rider size, rider prefference in bike size/style, driving style (I drive very agressively, more than most crotch-rocketers), and speeds needed.
Hey everyone! We need to get some "Scootdawg: California Chapter" patches or t-shirts or something. I would like to see a patch that we could throw on our leathers like all the hog's do. Anyone have any connections so that we could get something like this for a decent price? Maybe I'll just get one made for me and see if anyone else wants one...

We are still a Tank dealer in Tulare, they updated their site and forgot us ;-(. Also I have been down last week to finalize being a Lance dealer also. So now we get the best of both worlds in Central California. We are a pure brick and motor dealer, we handle it all for for you, pick your scooter, pay for it and no hassles with the DMV at all. As a dealer in California, we can only sell CRAB approved scooters. Please watch this secton next week for the formation of a scooter club. Thanks to all on this forum for ideas and tips, and to the big dawg for this forum.

Pressman,
You have to be that dealer I was speaking of, as far as I know there has only been one in Tulare, that is downtown on Tulare Ave.
I dropped by one day maybe a year and a half back and spoke with you and rode your sons 250 touring around the block.

medman, as you can tell I hopefully answered your questions, and help you out with the best of my ability, we have been growing and with the help of the problems I have read on these forums. Able to provide a really good customer service and information center. Since I am really bad at doing a web site, starting a scooter club from here is my goal by the end of the month.

Pressman, Are you handling the entire Tank line? Reason I ask is that Tank has the 250cc motorcycle that seems to be a Honda Rebel inspired creation, and I was wondering if any of its parts might bolt onto my Rebel, although I have a 450 some things are pretty close between the 250 and 450.

The only Accessories they have for it is a windshield, crash (highway) bar and plastic lugage boxes. Here is a link to more items than Tank or the other Chinesse importers would have. www.rebelcatalog.com/html/450rebels.html

I have already ordered from Jack, he is a great guy, tells the truth about his products and is well liked on the Honda Rebel forum.

Hi Californians,
Best place to ride on 2 wheels.
Left my heart somewhere here in San Fran.
Rock on.

edit: medman,
Thanks for the other suggestions, I'll stick with Malox.
Not a fan of San Francisco or Tony Bennett? You were also probably not on 2 wheels.

Runs,
Kaopektate, Imodium or Peptobismal might help, but put the scissors down please.
I try to run away from San Fransisco as much as possible, Glad you like it there.

Ok, I had plans to start a central california scooter club. I had to put that on hold while I work on adding 3 more scooter lines to our little shop here. The lines I will be stocking or able to my hands on are - Tank-Sports, Roketa (as soon as they clear C.A.R.B.), BMS Motorsports and thanks to a potental customer - Lance. So aound May 14 in Tulare, I will be inviting those that want to come out for free hotdog's and soda's come on out. From there we can all talk about starting the Club. Thanks for all those that started a scooter craze in California and the rest of the country.

I live up Pigeon Pass Rd and commute to RCC 4-5 days a week, I don't drive on Main St much (every once in a great while), but I drive down 14th, Central, and MLK all the time, sometimes Magnolia. If you haven't seen me around, you probably will! My GS-R is stickered up with some well placed sponsor stickers (Michellin, Alpinestars, HJC, Dr.Pulley, and Pro Grips are the ones I remember at the moment). I'll wave if I see ya'! Keep it shiny side up!

Looks like there are a few of us in the MoVal/Riverside area. I live in the MoVal Ranch area. I'm still learning to ride my Lance Venice and practicing for my motorcyle endorsements, so I'm hoping to be on the major roads soon. Since you live in the area, Aero, I'm sure you know how intimidating Lasselle St/Alessandro area can be for a newbie I'm working up my nerve along with my practicing, then maybe I can make it to Sunnymead Burgers. I'll be the one with helmet with a skull on it

Hah!!! ;D just about everwhere around here is intimidating!!! I commute on my scooter to school all the time. Imagine the 8am get-to-work rush while on a scooter.
Speaking of Sunnymead burger, that's in like 2 weeks. I believe that it is July 4th! I will probably be there for a while at least.
