I just received my Rocketa Bali 250 cc yesterday from BNscooters.
Service was prompt. I ordered a silver scooter but received a blue one. We all liked the blue color so it was a serendipitous event
- they ran out of silver. It arrived by UPS freight at 6:30 pm and
my son (19) insisted we set it up "right now". The garage light has a thermal sensor so it kept going off and we'd have to wave at it to get it to go on again. This made it hard to work. I had just finished putting a gray epoxy coating (Quickcrete) on the garage floor - it came out nice - really worth $62 (Lowes - includes an acid concrete degreaser and etchant as well as decorative flakes in a shaker and a DVD on how to do it) - so we couldn't get better lighting.
There were no instructions for setup
but we figured out how to get the windshield and mirrors on. The
running board covers are a smelly rubber painted with silver stripes.
This is normal Chinese technology - I purchased discount car mats a year ago and had to toss them - same stuff. I don't know if the rubber will outgass the smell over time - even the paperwork packed with the scooter smelled like this rubber.
I'm 5'11" and one of the mirrors doesn't have the vertical adjustment to give me a comfortable view - does anyone know where to buy aftermarket replacements that would be better?
Actually, I'd prefer a larger mirror.
My son and I took turns riding it around today and it is really quite nice. I'm waiting for the paperwork to arrive so I can register it.
Observations: The seat is comfortable, covered with a heavy woven material. Doesn't look fancy but feels good and should wear well. The ignition key unlocks the seat compartment. Unfortunately, on mine, you really have to twist hard to get the rear latch (like a car hood latch) to release the seat. The keys they
included are flimsy and bent doing this. A local locksmith made me a better key but I bent it a bit too. The key says ILCO X105 KA11. Part of the problem is that with my key, both sides come to a narrow point in the middle creating a weak spot - the locksmith said this happens with computer generated key patterns and that I migh have the bike rekeyed.
Additionally, setting up the scooter, I set the keys down in the underseat compartment then closed it and it locked - oops! I had to take the rear carrier off to be able to slip a screwdriver under the seat and relase the catch so I could reach in and retrieve the keys. A good reason to have a bunch of keys made and stashed all over the house.
A buddy at work purchased a KYMCO People 250 cc which led me to buy the Rocketa Bali 250 - he paid $4000. I paid half that. I think I made the right decision for me - I'm an engineer and I know this is going to be fun in the long run.
I bought a 1 gal gas can today at Wal Mart and was surprised to see that they are selling motorcycle helmets - this was the first time I'd seen this display in the automotive area.
Insurance (liability and medical) from Progressive and Geico appear reasonable (less than $150 per year)
In prepping my garage for my new scooter, I purchased a couple of Hyloft overhead storage trays from Costco (www.hyloft.com) - they hold about 300 pounds of junk off the floor and above your head - Costco sells them for $35 each. Really makes a difference. I even have a 16 ft ladder tied between them so its out of the way.
Try this - take a photo of the inside of your garage - look at it, and try to explain it to someone else why your garage looks like it does.
I think we get so used to our own mess we actually stop seeing it. A picture is kind of a shocker -a reality check. I have reasons for all the stuff I have but the reasons are not really defensible.
