Woodlark,
Nice scoot. I am assuming that trunk did not come with the bike. Also I stumbled across your blog by clicking something in the photo page on your post. You are a motorcycle maniac ;D Is there any bike you haven't owned? BTW do you still have that Burgman?

Thanks for the compliments! There are some bikes I haven't owned (at least I think there are). But you you have to keep in mind how far back that blog goes (the earliest bike shown there was a Christmas present from my parents in 1956!). The trunk did not come with the bike, I bought it from www.customcyclegear.com. I have the same identical trunk on my Burgman (yes, I still have the Burgman). I need to update the blog to include a writeup on the new scooter. In case anyone else is interested, the blog ddillon is talking about is: www.motorcycle-talk.com

That's sweet Woodlark! That trunk looks like it could go on a Goldwing. Nice set-up. Like your Blog too. I had a black 750 Shadow just exactly like the one you hated!

The seller actually lists that trunk as being for Harley-Davidson!

can you help me with something on my baron 250... same as yours.. i'm trying to change the gear oil but i can't seem to find the drain hole.. i found another access bolt which is too high up on the end to be the drain, but there is nothing facing down or lower on the side. it isn't the same position as on the 150cc tank touring.. and that's the only reference i have right now. if you have a pic, that would be great! thanks!!! donc

I don't have a picture, but if you go to Stan Jessup's website (http://www.oregonvintage.com/Scooter.html), he has a PDF posted that gives instructions with pictures for changing the cvt oil on a Tank 250. It is the same for a Baron. If you remove the CVT cover (got to move the Airbox out of the way), then look right at the bottom on the back end, there is a 10mm bolt head with a copper washer under it. That is the drain. About half-way up around the curve of swing arm is the fill hole. You need either a syringe or a pump oiler or something similar to refill the CVT.

donc; Welcome to the forum! It is a great place to be for help with your scoot. I have a Roketa Bali 250 and Stan Jessup has a Tank 250 - all basically the same bikes. If you have a specific request, different from the original thread topic, it may get more attention if you start a new thread in the 200+cc section.
At the rear of the drive unit, outside of the CVT cover, you will find the bolt in the fill hole. It will most likely have a copper washer under it. As Woodlark said, the drain hole is under the CVT cover. At the front top of the CVT cover you must remove a clamp that attaches to the front of the air box. Two small bolts in the face of the CVT cover hold it on. The cover may be stuck so pry carefully if necessary. After removing the cover you will find the drain bolt with copper washer kind of below the fill bolt. To refill, no need for special equipment. If you buy 75W90 or 80W90 gear oil in a bottle with a tapered spout, just cut off the sealed tip and insert it into the fill hole. Squeeze gently, removing from time to time to see if gear oil is running back out of the hole. If so, allow it to dribble until mostly level with the hole and replace the bolt. Do all this with the scoot on the main center stand.
Some folks have had difficulty getting the rubber gasket to stay on the cover as you try to reinstall the cover. If so, clean the lip and use some rubber gasket cement to secure the gasket. Allow it to dry and the reinstallation of the cover should be easier.

thanks! i had the cover off (took some doing, since i couldnt get the screw off the clamp to the airbox without removing the side underbody plastic piece !!!! not something I wanted to do and had a heck of a time putting it back in place --fearing i'd tear up a clip or crack the piece itself)... saw those bolts and was confused about which one to mess with.. actually tried to turn the bolt on the bottom of the shock!! stupid me.. but finally found the one you were talking about.. and got it done!!!! thanks getting that piece back onto the airbox was also a "b" gasket and all!!!

donc; Glad I could be of assistance! Know what you mean by the clamp to the air box. Mine was in a place where i could get to it w/o removing the body panel but the access was tight. Hope you could reposition yours for easier access next time. Different story on the clamp between the intake manifold and carb. Like I said in another post, I think it was installed so as to be absolutely inaccessible!

nice pics,it looks just like mine, except mine's yellow and i don't have a carring case.i ordered a tank touring 250 off the net.when i opened the crate it looked like the tank(that's a good manly name for a scooter)to my dismay the name brand was "WUSSI".i looked the co. name on the net and the scooter was marketed for puerto rico.i guess wussi means something else in puerto rican,oh,well.anyway it's actually a baron 250 touring made by shanghi moters i don't know if they make tank also.but it seems to be identical to the tanks including the problems shaky mirrors, the hose on top of the engine that hits a gets holes in it ,overheating.now with all these problemsi still love riding itit's fun to ride.i got the mirrors where i can actually use them.that hose on top of the motor split from hitting the underneath of the seat compartmenti put a new hose on it and cut out some of the seat compartment(right above where it was hitting)now it's fine.as far as the vibration in the rear seat areai figured our it was items i was carringing in my seat compartment so i layered the inside of the compartment with rubber (car floormats)cut them to fit and that quieted it down real good.the over heating was due to the crummy senser they put on it(the fan wasn't kicking ini ended up wiring the fan to my lights so when the engine is running the fan also runs ,the gauge still registers hot but it's never really overheated.i get about 63mpg and can cruise at that speed also.top speed is 77mphbut when i hit top speed the engine starts cutting out and drops down to 55nmh before it picks back up to cruising speed.i don't know if there is a governor or why it does that.right now i'm having problems with it cutting out and i'm trying to adjust the carberator the adjustment screw is in a hell of a place(on the bottom of the carb)and after you take all the air cleaner hoses of you can bearly get to it and i've had no luck taking it to any shop to have them look at it. if it isn't there brand or they didn't sell it to you they won't touch it.if anyone knows of anyone in the dallas area that i can take it to please let me know.thanksnicholas(the wild "WUSSI" rider )

Thanks for the comments nicholas. I'd love to know what Wussi means in PR. It doesn't show up in a Spanish translator, so it is probably somebody's name!
