My new Honda Metropolitan 2013 scooter with less than 100 miles on it is consistently making a tinny sound after it hits 30+ miles per hour. It sounds like it is coming towards the front of the vehicle. It is not a clicking sound, it is more of a rattling that sounds like it may or may not be coming from the engine. It hits a max speed of 33 mph. I am 120 pounds and I have a chain that is approx 35-40 pounds in the underseat compartment.
I do not know whether this is a normal sound or not, as I am new to scooters. I got it from a dealer, but I suspect that scooters are not their specialty/ they wouldn't be able to diagnose the problem.

Well, I put 92(high octane gas) in it. I could try a different gas station.
What does "pinging" mean? Should I get the scooter looked at or call Honda?

I would call Honda. You only have 100 miles on the scoot if there is a problem it is a warrantee repair. But being that it is a new scooter, please take the time to break it in correctly.

With 100 miles on it, I say Oh Hellz No. Take it back; make 'em fix it. You'll be doing plenty of your own work eventually, but not yet. That's no way to start.

There's no way you should be WOT with only 100 mile on the clock. Ease off it, take it slow, run it in properly. Get it to its first service (~200 mile) and then start gunning it. What ever it is should be picked up at first service, probably something slightly lose. Your first service should be done by your dealer anyway.

Well, I dropped it today and the scratches are noticeable :/ . I attempted to ride it around without the chain and the sound was much less pronounced but still there. The pinging problem probably isn't covered under warranty now. >_> What does WOT mean?

WOT=wide open throttle. If you're hitting full speed on a 50, you almost certainly will be.
If its any consolation about the scratches, I was on route to my first service (~160miles on the clock), and stopped off at a cash point, I just hopped off and left it on the side stand......at the corner of a building, on a windy day. While I was at the cash point there was an almighty crash, my bike was on its side, so I ran over and picked it up. As I was doing that, some one was going towards the ATM, that still had my card in it, so I dashed back I the cash point.........CRASH.....the scoot went over the other way. I limped the rest of the way to the garage with no back break lever, only half a front lever, and only one mirror!

Take it back to the dealer ASAP. Also, read the owner's manual completely. Your first few rides should consist of low speed and variations in that speed. Not a sustained low speed. After a period of time (miles) you should drive at a higher speed with a limit. Consult your owner's manual. It is terribly important to follow the manufacturer's advisory on break in so that you polish your rings and cylinder correctly. After that, enjoy!
