Hey everyone,
I drive a Buddy 125.
I'm hoping this is a different problem that hasn't been covered, if not can someone please help me find the link?
I've recently discovered, right before I had class, that my scooter doesn't want to start unless I kick start it.
I thought it was the battery for some reason... so I replaced it. It has been on and off lately and it's constantly needed to be charged. And it was kind of old. So I just bought a new one.
So, even with a new battery, when I turn my scooter on, things work normally IE horn, lights.. and when I turn the key, the starter will just click. My scooter friends say it might be the starter or loose connections.. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Anything helps, Thanks!

Welcome, The clicking is usually a poor ground connection, a battery that is bad or needs charging, a solenoid has gone out, or a bad starter. Try using jumper cables to give the battery a boost in power and if that makes it turn over, I would check the starter out. If it just clicks check out your battery cables on both ends and make sure the connection is clean and tight. Thinking it over the order I would start in is 1) check battery cables 2) try the jump start 3)pull the starter and see if it will spin freely if hooked up to a battery, don't let it spin a log time, just see if it seems to spin, if it does not you need a new one. 4) last would be to just buy and replace the solenoid If you don't have a service manual for that scooter, I have one you can download in the manuals area here. itistheride.boards.net/index.cgi

Good set of steps the only thing I would ad is 3.5 jump the 2 large connections on the solenoid and see if the starter spins. I might do that as a 2.5 before I pull the starter
EDIT: if the starter spins when you do this the solenoid is bad if not the starter. I realized that wasn't clear. The starter should spin. If it doesn't be absolutely sure check continuity from the starter to the solenoid or jump directly to the starter from a good the battery before you begin disassembly. Did you check the voltage on the new battery? 12.6 or so or it will just click. Don't assume anything check it all unless you just like taking things apart and putting back together for no reason. There is some value in that...

If doing a jump start, don't connect the jumper cables with the other vehicle running or start the other vehicle with the cables connected. It'll blow out your scooters' voltage regulator. So will using more than a 2 amp battery charger.

My money is on the starter. Take it off and hook it to the battery and see if it moves.

You are right, that is why I normally shy away from posting advise, I will always assume that people will do or know something and leave it out of my suggestions causing headaches for somebody.

Good chance it is the starter but if its me I would be praying its the solenoid. Thank God for the edit button... I missed a bit too
