Got a 2008 Shen scooter with 150cc GY6 engine. Had an oil leak when I got it. Took the engine apart and fixed oil leak. After re-assembly it has no spark. No power to the coil. Ignition switch and kill switch function properly. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? All wires are re-attached.

I would suspect ground wires

The starter cranks normally.

ok so it is not an engine ground . Do you know where the coil is ?

Yes I know where the coil is. There is no power to the coil.

you will only get power at the coil when the engine is cranking . Are the wires connected at the coil ? you need to check for cdi power and pulse from the stator .

Nyah, if it has an alarm system you may need to click the remote starter twice.

Do you have a Ground wire from the frame to one of the BOLTS on the VALVE COVER? Lefty

Double check all your wires are connected fully, i had a problem on ours that turned out to be the black and red wire going into the CDI wasnt connecting properly. Give them a push in and try again.

The stator output is 32V. This goes to the wire plug to CDI. When I connect the plug to the CDI, then it reads 0V. The kill switch is disconnected. Thinking the CDI must be shorted, I replaced it with a new one. Still reads 0V to CDI when plug iis connected.

Ok we are getting somewhere . How did you disconnect the kill switch ? This is very important !!!
Also check the bullet connector with the blue wire . Get a cranking vac reading .

32 Volts from the stator to the CDI indicates you have an AC CDI. On mine, My Osc-scope goes 120volts pos then 120v neg followed by a pause 'till the next sine wave cycle while cranking with cdi unplugged. You could have low voltage, hard to tell, Most multimeters will read low due to the pause. The Kill switch terminal should have a pulsating positive signal on it while cranking. The Kill switch grounds out the positive pulses from the stator through a diode in the CDI to kill the spark, neg pulses are shorted to gnd by another diode in the CDI since they're not used. if it's 0 volts at the kill switch terminal on the CDI while cranking, either the kill switch is on, kill wire is shorted to ground somewhere, or CDI has shorted internally due to smoke leakage. Kill switch on contition will cause stator lead to CDI to read 0 volts. ( unless you want to count the 0.7 volts forward bias diode voltages ) The stator lead to the CDI should have pulsating positive pulses on it in normal run conditions.

Disconnected the kill switch by removing the wire from #5 terminal on CDI Trigger wire reads .32vac while cranking

Im thinking the pulse is low .5 some say .4 , but .3 seems too low . 32vac for power seems low as well . I would think stator . Do you know how many coils it is and or id and od measurements .

It is an 8-coil stator. The part that puzzles me is that this scooter ran fine until I took it apart to fix an oil leak. Does this electronic stuff go bad just sitting? (Been almost a year since it last ran.)

I will say it again CHECK YOUR GROUND wires from the battery to the Frame and Wire from the Frame to the Motor. Also check your compression since you took it apart you may have a bad leak in the crankcase. Lefty

If your not getting a good strong crank it would give you low voltage readings. Just for kicks slow charge the the battery . Or try to kick it started .

Battery is fully charged and starter cranks engine at 600 rpm. Grounds have been cleaned and checked good.

feed some fuel in the vac line while its cranking . see what you get .

I have the sparkplug out of the head and holding the ground electrode against the engine there is no spark.

Yes, I tryed the gas through the vac line early on, before I discovered no spark.
