Hello I bought 2 scooters 50cc TaoTao VIP model 2012 new, they both got to about 880 miles and started having issues were they no longer want to stay on when you let go of the throttle. it is a 4 stroke, I have read a few things such as the air filter, the screw that changes how it idles and then valve timing. I have no tools or any thing I have tryed everything but the valve timing. How can I know for sure that is the issue? The 2nd scooter now hit 950 miles and wont start at all even with kick starting. any help would be great.
I have had them for 3 months.

Checked for spark? Did you let them sit for a while, gas gummed up the jets? Have you messed with the carb screws? What is it doing if you go out and try to start it right now?

Just up the idle. Maybe the idle screw doesn't have a counter nut, and it got loose a bit, resulting in low idle...?

The problem I see is the Valves need to be adjusted. When the valve or valves get tight they cause loss of compression and will not hold low idle. Concerning the Idle Speed screw they usually have a spring to keep tension on the screw to hold the setting. Sam

Okay that screw has a spring and I did not adjust it, all I have done is change the oil one has been sitting for 3 weeks, can you link to a guise to adjust the valves? Like what tools ill need etc I'm not afraid of doing it I'm worried I won't have all the tools once I start

all you need is a 8 or 10mm socket to remove the bolts on the valve cover a 9mm to loosen the valve nut, and some feeler gauges.
