I'm going tomorrow to check out a potential scooter I might buy. It's a 2002 Honda Silverwing FSC600 with 6031 miles on it. I'm a NEWB when it comes to scooters so I want to make sure I'm buying a good bike and not a piece of junk. What should I look for and what questions should I ask to know if I'm getting a good scooter? There's snow and ice on the roads where I live so taking it for a test spin is out of the question it seems. What I do know is that the guy has kept up with the oil changes but has not had the valves adjusted since he's owned the scooter. He's the second owner and bought it when there was only 2000 miles on it. Attachments:

Have you ever ridden before? The Honda's a very fine machine, but that is an awful lot of bike!

Don't worry about the valves I don't think it will be an issue. Besides obvious signs of crashing just make sure it says HONDA on it. They make a fine machine not much can go wrong with them in the first 6000 miles. Buy it!

Every Honda I ever had including cars and lawnmowers loved me and never had any problems . I had an Elite and Spree when I was young . Bought a TaoTao ATMa 50 aka POS and cracked the piston on day two and blew it up 6 weeks later what a POS as I have had around 40 mopeds , scooters , motorcycles on and offraod and never once had a piston crack .
After used to Honda quality I learned the China stuff is no where near as good . Hondas are great but genuine Honda parts cost alot compared to universal parts for China scooters . The Silverwing is so good you only need premium gas , NGK iridium plug and maybe performance tires after the stock ones wear down . Leave it stock and you should have many years of enjoyment

Like I posted in a previous thread Bong I've been waffling between getting a scooter or not for a couple years now. I've finally made up my mind that I'm going to get one. As far as the 600 scoot being too much bike for me, I'm 6'5" 300+ lbs...unfortunately I NEED too much bike LOL!

I decided to go with the Burgman 400....for me the 650 or the 600 of the Honda was more bike than I needed. If you decide you like the bike, I'd offer them $2000 cash. When they counter...meet them at $21 or 2200 and say its my final offer....be prepared to walk away....they won't let you....lol Stick to your offer until you're absolutely sure he's not going to budge off of his offer. Only you can decide what you're willing to pay for a good deal
