I have a 2010 Bashan 49.9cc Scooter, i purchased it at the beginning of 2012, and I am the only owner. I maintained the oil and gear lube, and I also followed the strict under 25mph limit for the first 300 miles. Unfortunately, after about 4 months the scooter started incrementally having trouble starting, with a whirring sound and it sounded like the starter was slipping or not catching. I eventually replaced the starter bendix clutch, and that fixed it for a while. A few weeks thereafter, the same problem kept happening, so I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Is it the starter malfunctioning or is this a common problem with this brand of scooter? Trying to get it ready to sell and I'd like to get this problem fixed so I can get my asking price. Yea, once it starts, it runs like it's supposed to. I hadn't tried to start it in over 2 months, and today I picked it up and the battery was dead, I tried kick starting it, and miraculously it started up on the second kick, I rode it down to the end of my street, and then coming back up, it bogged down and cut off. I'm sorta thinking now it's a fuel problem, maybe the carb keeps flooding. Would flooding cause the above symptoms I've mentioned? And if so, would cleaning the float bowl out and replacing the fuel filter be a good idea?

hey bro ive also got a bashan. If its sat for a while i would use some seafoam, or lucas oil. The gas may have gone bad from sitting. If this doesnt work clean the carb and get fresh gas. For the difficult start i would check the idle and make sure its idling high enough. If its too low it can be hard for it to start also. Good luck.

smells like a valve adjustment . I would dump the fuel clean the carb and fully charge the battery .
