Hey everyone! I am completely new to scooters and scootering in general. My dad bought me a 2008 Jonway Shenk 250cc to get around for school. It has about 1800 mils on it, 400 of those miles I myself have ridden. It had been running fine for the past few months, but it all of a sudden had a hard time starting. Sometimes, the power would come, but would cut off and would not start up at all. I would wait a day and it start right up. One day, I went out, it started right up, but when I went to start it up again it died out on me and did not start again. I replaced the battery, thinking that was it, but now there is no response when I put the key in the ignition. No power whatsoever. Any suggestions about what the problem could be?//

Did you check the main fuse? Is the ground wire well fastened?

Checked the fuse and it was fine. The ground wire was well fastened as well.

a lot of the 250s have a fuse box with about 5 fuses which feeds everything. So when you turn the key on the red wire has a main fuse that red wire coming off the battery feeds the fuse box. So look around for a fuse box some are under the seat next to the battery and they have a retangler cover on it. Some are in the glove box. Also some have a 20a fuse on the SOLENOID. Do any gauges and or lights come on when you turn the key on?

Yeah, i look at those. all are fine. No lights come on when I turn the key. Absolutely no activity. Ever since the battery went out the first time and I changed it, no power.

Ok, I think you blew a fuse maybe only the main one. Did you maybe hook up the battery wrong the first time, if so you definitely blew a fuse.
If it is a TUBE type fuse which most are, they MAY LOOK GOOD but are bad. You cannot see on each end if the thin wire is broke. I would change it they are cheap. You can test if the fuse is good get a 12v LIGHT TESTER they are cheap and are great. Then Ground the black wire from the tester and then probe each wire going into the FUSE. The LIGHT TESTER should light on both ends of the Fuse. Also the fuse box there is a BLACK WIRE under the fuse box that is the 12v FEED, they have a bad habit of coming off.

Good luck Bro, but it is definitely a wire came off or bad fuse if you have ZIP juice, Just have to find which one it is.

You can test to see if your battery has descent amps if you do not have a Volt Meter, jump the solenoid and see if the spins your starter.

I have tested my battery and it has plenty of juice, 12v. I will definitely pick up some fuses tomorrow and see if that works. Thanks and I will keep you posted on what happens

Great, now if you have Horizontal motor it only has two fuses one on the SOLENOID a 20a one and one on the red wire. So get both if you have the horizontal motor.
If you have the Vertical motor it has a 15a coming off the red wire going to the fuse box get at least that one. The fuse box has about 4 or so SPADE fuses and those boxs are not the best so also check the connections on the box and pull each fuse out and look at it and put it back in so they make a good connection. Good Luck, but I am sure it is just one of the damn fuses. Or that cheap as fuse box if you have the Vertical motor has bad connections.

I went without mine for a couple of days when I was first starting out on on my first scooter. Came out one day turned the key, dead. Got out the eletrical tester unit, I had plenty of power to crank. Checked all the fuses, checked the fuel lines, checked the vac lines, checked for gas,oil all that jazz. Went online to download a service manual. The second day, nothing. On the third day, I got all the tools out to deplastic it. Got a couple of the upper covers off, and then as I was trying to get a lower cover off, I saw that if I would *put it on the center stand* I'd have way easier access to the bolts.. Dumbass!! The kick stand has a kill switch. What a stupid man. WOW, did I ever feel stupid, as soon as I put the kick stand up, the kill switch was closed, and the scoot started right up. I just had to sit back, and have a good laugh at myself. Moral, dont over look the obvious. Good luck.

Is there anyway it could be the CDI box thats not working? If so, where is that located on my model scooter? Jonway Shenke YY250T DID YOU GET THE FUSES??---YOU HAVE NO POWER TO ANYTHING!! The CDI and OR the KILLSWITCH on the Right Hand Grip or if you also have one on the Side stand has NOTHING to do with NO POWER TO YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL AND LIGHTS. The CDI ONLY FEEDS the COIL to SEND Voltage to the SPARK PLUG At the right TIME. THE KILLSWITCH GROUNDS OUT THE CDI SO IT DOES NOT SEND JUICE TO THE COIL. ON Some Scoots it also will not allow you to crank the motor over on others it will allow you to crank the motor over but will never start. BUT I WILL SAY AGAIN HAS NO EFFECT on POWER TO your instrument panel and or any lights that work off the battery.

Make sure the nuts and bolts you use to connect the red and black wires to the battery terminals are tight. The bolt on the positive battery terminal would come loose. It happened to me a couple of times. Once at the gas station I shut the engine off and filled up. Went to turn the ignition on and nothing. Opened up the battery compartment and the screw on the positive terminal was loose. Tightened it up with a phillips screw driver. Tried the ignition and it started up on the first try. Like I said this happens sometimes. This is why I always carry a screwdriver with me.

Leo the last sentence says no power at all... All the parts you mentioned will need power won't they?

no power at all could be caused by a blown fuse, bad ignition switch and/ or loose connectors at the front of the scoot. don't forget that the ignition switch is what supplies power to the bike and it also "kills" the CDI signal when in the off position. there used to be a connector on the front of my scoot that had a loop of wire jumpered between 2 pins. i suppose the chinese did that so if the headlight connector became unplugged the bike wouldn't start. anyway . . . it's definitely the wiring, and if you are anything like me you will finally have enough and do this: scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=200cc&action=display&thread=41978

I feel really, really, REALLY dumb...When fastening my battering back on, i put the 15A fuse leading up to the battery onto the negative polarity. Scooter turned right on after I fixed that... I am an idiot! Thanks for all the advice guys. Ill be riding again really soon!
