Greetings from the Emerald City!
About a year ago my car got demolished while it was parked, around the same time I was starting to re-ponder the possibility of a scooter as a second vehicle rather than two gas guzzlers in the family, so I took it as a sign from whatever god may or may not be that it was finally time to follow a pipe dream id always wanted to act on, a scooter! Started down the rabbit hole wanting a ruckus just for the looks, unfortunately looks aren’t everything, and after quite a bit of research the sassy little bike (even with mods) wasn’t going to cut it. So I narrowed it down to a few 125-150cc options that looked good,. PCX150, Fly150, SportCity125, Typhoon125, Zuma125, Keeway Outlook150, Bintelli Havoc150, etc,.
Got my certification and started test driving. But really only the Zuma, PCX and the Fly felt right but with it being the PCX150's first production year I was looking at silly dealership fees that took an okish price tag and added nearly 25%. And the fly, while it drove well,. It really wasn’t the ride I was looking for,. The zuma, would have had me, but again dealership fees ruined the price point for me, so I sat on Craig’s list for a few months and then it appeared a shining ray of hope, and it wasn’t even on my radar as I wasn’t looking to go this big,. But there it was, a 2007 Honda Reflex w/ABS, more plastic than I really wanted,. BUT every feature I did want, and the guy had it at a reasonable price to! (400 under bluebook) 4800 miles, service records, and she was mint, really mint. =) And as plastic goes,. i have to admit i like the way it looks.
So iv had her for about a week now, driven her every day in the rain, starts every time, and has operated flawlessly now for about 100 miles,. so far I am ecstatic about this scoot and extremely happy I didn’t go smaller, I am certainly still learning, but iv very quickly gotten use to the slightly heavier characteristics of a 250cc Iv gone over the owner’s manual front to back and checked everything possible to check as a novice, and it all looks good so far,. only thing slightly off is that the owner’s manual says she should idle at 1k, and she’s currently idling at 2k, since everything is working perfectly I’m leaving it be for now, but I might try to adjust her down a hair in a week and see what happens. Other than that,. I am ready to have some fun out there!
I kind of feel like iv hit the jackpot, I paid less than what I was planning on paying for a new ChinaScoot for a very gently used Honda, and one with serious range to boot. Deals are out there, you just have to patrol craigs list, and be ready to jump, cash in hand, the second a good one pops up!
So I have heard the term maxi-scooter, does a 250cc Reflex fall under that or do maxis start a few CC’s higher? Been looking at this reflex vrs the silver wing, and really the numbers are all quite close other than about 100ccs, Just want to be using the correct terminology, so far iv been calling it my mini-maxi, kind of like a jumbo-shrimp.
Just ordered a top box, which should be here in a day or two so I can haul more gear when I go wandering!
Anyway looking for groups/rides/adventures in or around the Seattle area, and I’m not afraid of a little rain (though I have a healthy bit of respect of the rain, I did my certification in a near downpour!)
