A balaclava is a ninja looking hood that goes over your head and also covers the neck . I have a Freeze Out from www.cyclegear.com ( they have many listed but only had that one in the local store . Well it does great for blocking the wind , in fact too good as I can not breathe good with it . My breath flows up and fogs up my eyeglasses and face shield . I have a health problem to where I breathe out of my mouth instead of my nose like I should be .
Well I was on Amazon and they have pages of balaclavas from 5 to 50+ dollars . I ordered one with 2 eye holes ( most have one ) and a hole over the mouth . The material is not the spandex like Freeze Out but instead it says 100% acrylic . It is soft like a knitted ski mask but covers the neck as well . It is not wind or waterproof but its thicker , soft and BREATHEABLE . I keep my mouth vent on my FF open and leave the face shield ajar or not quite closed all the way as it prevents fogging . I open my shield a stop lights . I like my new one better since I can breathe and it fills up the clearance gaps in my helmet , even though it very snug almost tailor made for my head .
A balaclava is great to keep your head and neck warm . I hate how cold air would freeze my neck as it flowed underneath my helmet . I tried a collar and piece that covered up to my nose and went down to my chest . I found I would turn the part that went over my mouth and nose downward in order to breathe better .
I will be ordering another balaclava with the entire face open and compare the results and repost it.
Also with eyeglasses visibility was cut down some . My old eyeglass frames were wimpy and got bent up with my balaclava . I was thrilled that my 9 dollar frames from Wally World would 10 times better than from my eye doctor that were 6 times more expensive . I love getting decent items for on the cheap when I can
