I like silver on a scooter it looks good and hides dirt well. We want pics when you get it Definitely will post some. I'm going to call and put a deposit on it tomorrow. The next classes for the motorcycle safety thing to get my permit isn't until December 1st and 2nd. How long after you take the class does it take to get the endorsement on your license? The store I'm getting it from doesn't offer free delivery, and they obviously can't let me drive it off without the endorsement, so they said I could put a deposit down and they'd hold it for me for a little bit until I get my license and then come in and pay the rest. There is technically a class this upcoming weekend on the 24th and 25th, but I'm leaving to do out of town tomorrow and wont be back until the middle of the day on the 24th, so I'd miss half the first day of class. I'm a little bummed about that, but I can wait another week. It's worth the wait to see my family... I guess edit: I was just looking at the info for the motorcycle safety course and it says for the gear I need to bring I need full fingered gloves. So I guess I will be getting my gloves before anything else. Can anyone suggest a pair that are good, but also breathe real well? Remember I live in FL, so I'm not as concerned about cold.

I personally bought this setup (I also live in FL, miami area): $45 boots; make sure you don't get the black ones, they're too hot. Otherwise comfy boots! $35 helmet This is my high speed helmet, which I bought for my big bike. A $40 helmet (I bought it for $30), this was my first helmet, it proved fine for mopeds and 50cc scoots, however over 35 MPH wind noise was getting annoyingly loud $20 set of bino's, great goggles, work better than sunglasses! A $48 harness, bought it on evilbay, good enough to stop road rash from happening. I had also bought some $10 gloves, but they're no longer for sale on amazon. Black friday is almost there, get your stuff at that time! Another tip I may give to you: Go to the DMV site, and make an appointment with them for making your ID for the motorcycle endorsement classes. Most DMV's in South florida have a 3 to 4 weeks waiting list. Better make an appointment now, for a few days after your endorsement. That way, you don't lose a whole saturday on just sitting and waiting for the next available spot!

Can you get a permit in the mean time? Some states allow you to get a temporary endorsement.
As far as gloves go try some on I like Tour Master but every hand is different...

Not yet. I'll post an update and some pictures when I get it. I put a deposit down before I left out of town, and I just got back a couple of hours ago. Taking my rider safety course this weekend to get my endorsement. As far as I know, the scooter shop is taking care of all the registration stuff so all I have to do is let them know when I plan on picking it up, which will probably be around the 3rd or 4th. I asked the instructor of the motorcycle safety class about the endorsement, and I was told you get a temporary motorcycle license when you complete the class and that I could use that until I get the endorsement on my license.

I have a few other questions about gear that would be better to figure out now before I actually get the scooter. 1) I plan on wearing a helmet. I think if you ride a scooter/motorcycle without a helmet you're an idiot. Sorry, but that's how I see it. I've looked a little and I've seen a few different styles. I don't want the ones that kinda resemble bicycle helmets. They don't look like they would stay in place in an accident. I've been looking at 3/4 and full face helmets. The assumption I have is that the full face offers better protection than 3/4. The main concern I have is I wear prescription glasses. The other concern I have is fogging of the visor and/or my glasses if I use a full face helmet. I'm not concerned to much about fogging because the air is cold and my breath isn't (though that is a concern for a couple of months out of the year), I'm mainly concerned about fogging due to humidity. I'm leaning towards 3/4 mainly because of the fogging issues I forsee, but I am by no means an expert. Can anyone offer any advice as far as this is concerned. 2) A lock. I want to get something to keep someone from stealing my scooter. Unfortunately, I doubt I will be able to lock it to another item like a tree most of the time, so if someone really wanted to steal it they could come in a truck and pick it up. I just want to keep someone from rolling it away. Here is what the shop has. Any specific type that is generally recommended more than others? 3) A cover. I want to keep the rain off my scoot so it'll last as long as possible. Realistically though... I live in FL. Everything here rusts like crazy. I figure every little bit helps though. I was looking at this one on Amazon, but I'm willing to take some advice from y'all on this one too. The GMW webpage says the scoot is 70"L x 27.5"W x 45"H. Products from Amazon would be awesome. I have a little over $100 worth of gift cards saved up.

Can't offer much help but I can tell you that 3/4 (with a face shield) and full face helmets fog just about equally. Full face do protect your face better

I personally feel that a full face helmet on a little scooter is just overkill. Call me crazy! I usually use a 3/4 helmet so that I can wear sunglasses and flip the visor down to cut out the wind or I use the half helmet with goggles. Full face would be fine with a big scooter like a 400cc or 650cc. That is just me though.

Chin + Pavement @ 40 mph = no chin. If you don't crash well get a full face if you know how to cover up go 3/4. I personally use a 3/4 but have been thinking of going back to full face

Well, as promised, here are a few pictures. Just my helmet that I got yesterday so far though. It'll be a day or two before I get pictures of the scoot. They are delivering it this evening. I found out that they offer free delivery to Gainesville residents - they just don't advertise it very well It still has the factory oil in it. I asked about that because I've read that it's pretty crappy oil and was told it'll be fine and that's why they recommend the first oil change at 200 miles. Should I drain out the oil anyway and put some 10w40 in it? Will the factory gear oil be fine for the first 200 miles?] Anyway, here's the album.

I've read through that PDI site before and it sounds very thorough. From what I understand, doing some of the stuff they recommend will void my warranty from the dealer if I do it myself. I'm technically not even supposed to change the oil myself. I was planning on changing the oil anyway, and probably the spark plug, but changing out fuel/vacuum lines and fuel filter and stuff like that would probably be something they notice when I take it in for scheduled oil changes. I also don't have many tools, or mechanical knowledge. When I was thinking about ordering one this is why I was going to have it shipped to my parents and my dad was going to help me. I honestly don't know if I could take the scooter apart and then put it back together like they do on that PDI. I'll only let them do the oil changes for the first year while the warranty is in effect though. They charge $23 for an oil change and I think around $50 for engine and gear oil change. I think they don't make much money from selling the scoots, but make most of it from the service.

Well then at least check all the things on the list make sure it all looks ok all nuts bolts and fasteners... Oil replacement is just a good idea and no one will notice. Unless you strip the drain bolt

As promised, here are the pictures of the scoot. They dropped it off late yesterday evening and it was to late to get any pictures because of the low light. It's driving me crazy just sitting there; I want to take it for a spin. I'm getting my endorsement this weekend and I need to add the scooter to my insurance. Later I plan on going up to Advance Auto Parts and getting an NGK spark plug and some stuff to change the oil. That'll give me something to do tomorrow. Though it looks like my spark plug is kinda hard to get to, if what I'm looking at is indeed the spark plug...

It looks like your entire underseat bucket comes out and you should be able to access your spark plug quite easily.
Nice scoot

Ok, question time When you check the oil, I assume you put it up on the center stand. Do you let it lean forward on the front wheel or backwards on the rear wheel to check the oil? The owner's manual that came with the scoot is pretty crappy (which I expected) and only says that it should be on a level surface. I pulled the seat off too and found the spark plug. It's not super easily accessible, but easy enough.

Its on the right hand side (as you sit on the bike) towards the front of the engine. Attached to the spark plug wire (that big thick wire right?)

I check mine on the center stand as it sets on the front wheel. When I put in the correct amount of oil at a change (.75 qt) it reads full or close enough (fraction of a mm off)

make sure its the right amount of oil and then check it each way until it reads full then you will know for sure. Report back and I'll check it the same way next time. Do not screw the dipstick in when you check

I have a little over $100 worth of gift cards saved up. 1- I've been on a 2 wheeler for over 25 years, and never had a single moment in life where I had needed the gear, so I don't agree with your statement that it's idiotic. I do see a crash, like winning the lottery (only in the negative way). One in a few thousand of near accidents need you to have a helmet on. If you're a bad driver, you'll have more near accidents and more chance of needing that helmet. Still, the longer you drive, the higher the chance of hitting the jackpot; and it's better safe than sorry. It's better to pay a $120 helmet than pay a $12k face transplant. For that reason I'd say you're safer with a full face helmet. Helmets have some negative sides, they block some of the sounds you may hear without a helmet, so they limit your riding experience somewhat. But if you plan on wearing one anyway, get a full faced helmet! Fogging, I've never had any issues with fogging. You can wear prescription glasses in most full face helmets, and you can open the wind screen if you want. Open it a little and you won't feel any wind turbulence within the helmet, but any fog will clear from the windshield. In fact most helmets have a front vent, and a top vent, which allow fresh air to enter in the helmet. 2- I bought this lock, very happy with it, and fits in my scooter's helmet compartment: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000L9U4CE/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i003- I would advise against a cover in summer. It traps heat, and you can really ruin your bike, getting extreme temperatures under the bike's cover.

3- I would advise against a cover in summer. It traps heat, and you can really ruin your bike, getting extreme temperatures under the bike's cover. hhmm... I'd never thought about that. I was curious and Googled it and most cheap covers also apparently trap moisture under the cover because they don't have any vents and aren't breathable and actually cause it to rust faster. Thanks for the tip So any recommendations for keeping the scoot from rusting? I live in an apartment and have no way to park it under a shelter. There are a ton of trees overhead though so it would almost never be in direct sunlight when parked at home. Luckily this time of the year we don't get much rain, but from May through September I often find myself wondering why we're called the Sunshine State when it rains nearly every day. Also, I couldn't resist the temptation and took her for a little spin; just down the road a little ways and back. I don't want to chance getting pulled over by the cops and not having my endorsement yet. I've been told the cops here hate scooters and will pull you over for the dumbest reasons. I have a friend that got pulled over a few weeks ago because the cop said he was riding "to close to the bicycle lane." No ticket, because he obviously wasn't in the bike lane, but it caused him to be late for work. Anyway, the short little ride I got in was great. I'm excited about the motorcycle class this weekend so I can legally ride my scoot!
