So maybe you guys can help me out here. I rode my scoot to work this morning no problems...she was running as she always does. Then when I got off work this afternoon she started acting really sluggish. Now normally when I ride WOT I can get her to go 30-35mph, this afternoon she was only going about 15-20mph with WOT. I was able to make it home just fine but very slowly...well,slow compared to her normal top speed. I changed nothing on her as I was working. No adjustments, no different oil or gas. Definitely getting spark as she will start up and run just fine, I'm just getting very little speed out of her. Any idea why this is happening? I plan on taking a look inside once she cools down a bit, but I was hoping someone out there may have an idea so I don't waste time looking at the wrong thing.

Well, took a look at her...saw nothing out of the ordinary except the gear oil was a bit low. Could freezing gears cause such a problem? Heading to get some gear oil here in a bit and hoping beyond hope that's the problem because I am certainly stumped here.

When was the last time you checked and set your valves?

When was the last time you checked and set your valves? It might be a two stroke

Ok..it is a 2 stroke...same thing I ride. Have you checked for air leaks?... 2 strokes are super picky about airflow...making them difficult to tune and run...even due to a tiny air leak..which is commonly found at the reed cage gasket. How is the carb?...did you take it apart and clean it?..You have spark...it fires and idles fine...but does not run well at higher speeds than idle. So check for fuel flow by pulling the vacuum line and fuel line..suck on vacuum line and see if you have good fuel flow. Also do a compression check and let us know what you find..

I took apart the carb about a month ago and cleaned it. It was surprisingly clean and of course the first thing I checked last time I had a problem with it stalling. I do run Seafoam through it every so often as well. No stalls this time, and it runs fine past idle, the engine revs and sounds like its doing its job, the power is just not there. Fuel flow is also good, almost new filter on it (only had this one on a month or so). Also checked for air leaks and the only one I've found is one that I've had for a while at the exhaust. Hasn't caused any problems just made the scoot loud. Just haven't had the cash to get a new muffler (the leak is at where the exhaust connects to the muffler, exhaust manifold right?)
I'll check compression tomorrow when it's daylight but the engine itself sounds fine, just no power. Well I have power, just not alot of it. It's nice and zippy til it hits it's new top end at about 17mph.
I did, before the sun went down, fill up the gear oil...it was alot lower than I thought. I ran it for a bit and am going to let it sit overnight and see what happens. But if you have any suggestions...my ears are wide open, lol.

Okay the problem is sorta solved...I rode the poor girl to work today and found out very abruptly that it was the belt causing all the issues...snapped on the way to work even though it looked fine upon visual inspection last nite. Luckily for me, they just opened a new scooter shop right across the street from my job.
The bad thing is, this guy had a bit of a time finding a belt for it as all he had was GY6 belts and he found out very quickly I was not using a GY6 but a Minarelli JOG motor. He found the belt but then said my clutch was practically disintegrated (how the hell does that happen??). He was kind enough to offer me a loaner scoot until he could get mine fixed tomorrow, I turned him down as I didn't want to have anything happen and be on the hook for my repairs and whatever else may or may not have happened....but I was flattered he would offer me a loaner. Gave me a real good feeling about this new shop thats for sure. Very friendly and helpful folks, and if I would have had a GY6, this guy would have had the damn thing done in ten minutes.
Sooo, pending my scoot pickup tomorrow...I will highly recommend this shop to my fellow scooterists in the Cape Fear area.
I'll post the info tomorrow once I see how much they charge me for the repairs.

Nevermind, 250 bucks later my scoot is finally fixed...but I'm not too happy about havin to pay that much to get it repaired. Be wary Cape Fear area scooterists...Scooters in Castle Hayne is yet another one of THOSE places....arrrgh!!!

Good thing you didn't take that loaner. They'd charge you 12 bucks a gallon for gas, plus tire wear and air loss.
