Hello all, my name is Kal and I'm new to scooters. ;D I just got my first one a couple months ago and it's been an interesting journey since. I've always wanted a scooter since I was young, and I thought it would be the ever illusive mid 80's Honda elite 150D (thank you "Legend of Billy Jean" ;D) but my current scooter just fell into my lap. It's a 2008 Roketa 150cc "Fiji"" I think, lol. I don't know, it's hard as heck trying to track down a name of a Chinese scooter, lol. I bought this from a friend of mine. She didn't want to part with it but it has been sitting for some time (and with only around 400 miles on it) and she doesn't know how to work on anything, plus I needed something economical to get back and forth to a job I was going to get. Fuel prices are just plain crazy right now and a scooter was just the best choice. It was either this scooter or a Honda Elite 80 I was eying on craigslist. As much as I love the Honda's I chose this scooter because I live in a town with lots of hills and I'm not a skinny person so I thought a 150cc would push me along a little better.
My plan is to get it working better for now, do all the basic maintenance stuff, make repairs from being layed over (a former owner), then maybe upgrade it power-wise later down the road (once I'm more comfortable on it). This has to hold me long enough to whenever I get a motorcycle (the new job has a longer commute and I like the stability of a motorcycle for such crappy roads better) and then this scooter gets passed down to my wife. Interesting side story about my wife. I tried to get her to try the scooter out in the driveway and she didn't want to right then, she said it would have to be on her next day off ( knew she was scared and was just blowing steam up my skirt but I let it slide that day, lol). On her next day off I had to dang near twist her arm to at least try it. After reluctantly getting on and trying it around a vacant parking lot I couldn't get her off of it, lol. She even drove it home. ;D
I'll be asking plenty of questions, doing a lot of reading, and I welcome any great advice! ;D
