I think people are just jealous of us, at least here in Mexico City they are, For example I have to ride 10km to get to work, here in Mexico City if I take my car it would easily mean that I have to be stuck in it for at least 45 min every morning and every night when I come home, but if I take my scoot it only takes me 15 min to get there. Same here where I live, at rush hour there's so much traffic, if anyone has a problem with me I'll never know because traffic is so congested. I did have a lady once tell me "you're gonna get killed on that thing". I just asked her if she was "threatening" me. She kept yammering on but the light changed and I kept going.

My first thought on starting to read here was, "No, they're just self-absorbed. Same as the folks coming in to the shop and standing there texting instead of telling me what they need."
After reading a couple of the posts, no offense but oh come on. 1--Car drivers don't go around feeling smug and superior because they're in cars, those people do that to everyone that isn't themselves. 2--Car drivers get irritated and pass dangerously 'cause they've encountered too many jerk-bike riders.
I watched the idiot popping wheelies along the highway. I had a sports bike pass me on the highway going so fast he was at the horizon by the time I looked for where he was having heard his motor. I had a scooter riding between lanes (illegal) and cutting off other vehicles (probably also illegal). I had one who either had no acceleration or didn't want to accelerate with the traffic, and barely start up when the light changed, so nobody else behind him could make the green light. Had the biker who swerved between lanes and even into the oncoming lane just to end up one car ahead by the next stoplight.
Do these bike-drivers hate car-drivers? I would take the assumption they don't.
We've got a scooter-rider who likes to go on a 45 mph (meaning 'most everyone goes 50) on his scooter that apparently can't hit 35 on the flat. During rush hour. Busy busy packed with traffic street. There's plenty of other choices of roads, but he takes the busy fast one. Why? Does he hate car drivers? I'm guessing rather it's self-absorption and he doesn't think how he's holding up a lane of traffic for his convenience.
The only two-wheeled rider I know for sure hated car drivers was the bicyclist who tried to get me in a head-on collision. He had cleared the hill's crest and motioned for me to pass him. Aa I started to, here came an oncoming car. I managed to brake and swerve back into my lane behind the biker. Once I could see it was clear, I passed. As I pulled even, I looked over. Biker was grin-smirking at me and nodding. He'd done it on purpose. I should've just swerved him off the road right then for trying to get me killed. But that's not how my Momma raised me.
Other than that, I've seen no examples of any driver hating any other kind of driver. LOTS of self-absorbed can't-bother-to-look-out-for-anyone-else drivers. Way too many of those.
Which isn't to say there aren't jerk-brains out there who for some reason enjoy screwing with bikers. But then again, even Catholic priests have some bad ones in the flock. And there's far fewer of them than drivers. There's always going to be some bad'uns in any group. But to generalise that most of the group hates a sub-group is just doing the same as what you're accusing car drivers of doing.
Perhaps if you quit thinking every car driver hates you, and instead keep in mind that most drivers (four and two wheels) are probably just self-absorbed and not giving full attention, I think you'll have a lot better time of it. Keep your eyes open and your brain engaged and drive safe! And please quit furthering the hate.

Its much safer to assume they hate you and ride like there's a bounty on your head
I have had more than one person purposely try to kill or at least injure me

I can pretty much tell which truck will be running me down. Maybe I'm being selfish but I don't like being followed 18 inches from my LED tailight by 8000lbs of Chevy. It's not the same everywhere and you are lucky if cagers put up with your silly scooter. Road rage is just as much a problem in a car here. My daughter just started driving and is having a hard time with the hate-full drivers. I don't know what to tell her.

I skipped this thread mainly because I'm so fully convinced that us scootards are the world's sorriest beings. The entire planet hates us, despises us, and I do believe there's a conspiracy against us! For that reason, which I stated above, and did not want to become known publically, I did not participate in this thread. But now that the word is out, I might as well chime in! It's the end of the world, brethren! Everybody drive off a cliff, before the world turns mad and kills us in it's rage! We are the scootards, We are the sorriest beings on earth, The whole world hates us, Barack O Bama will save us! www.jibjab.com/originals/hes_barack_obama

I'm lucky. I'm sure it will happen but so far it hasn't. I've had my scooter now for about a week and a half and I've put 300 miles on it.
So far, from what I've seen, my city seems pretty scooter friendly. I commute about 15 miles to work so 30 round trip and most of it's 45mph. The scooter does pretty well, although I really wouldn't want to have to run faster then that.
I ride a Verona 150 (Vintage 150, or Heritage 150 are all the same bike as mine) so if I had to go faster, it does get a little "twitchy" but it works.
when in the "mega cage" (full size k-5 4x4) I've always tried to be mindful of bikes. I try to give them extra room and if they are splitting lanes (legal in Cali), I try to move over a bit and give them a little more room. Since riding, I'm even more aware of it.

95% of the time in my small town, all goes well. 5% of the time, I have to remind people that I'm the mac daddy and the daddy mac.
