Okay, love riding, change plug, gear oil and all but not much of a wrencher.
Anyway, my scoot doesn't want to start the first time each day. Once I kick it ten times or more and get it to idle and warm up a bit, it runs great. The rest of the day it starts great too.
I've read all the trouble shooting stuff but does this sound familiar? A good place to start to sort the problem? Seems weird once I get it started it runs like brand new all day and starts perfect the rest of the day but sits all night and doesn't want to start.
Anyway, thanks for ideas of how to cure this problem.

Hey Dave, I also have a dd-50 (2007) and experience the same problem. I haven't quite tracked it down because I soft seized mine and waiting for my parts. But, I think mine was running way too rich. I had replaced the stock muffler with one that did not have the resonator pipe on it from Jiangwayne.com www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/parts/image/59.jpeg Anyway, when I replaced that, I also put an 88 main jet in it. As others here has since pointed out, they think that my main jet was too big. All this to say, You may want to check your plug for build up. I think that is why mine was having a hard time starting in the morning. It could also be your Idle adjust. Hopefulyl my ramblings help and at least give you a couple of things to check. Good Luck. Hey paemt1, I also had a performance pipe and a larger jet put on mine. My SYM dealer at the time had a deal to replace the pipe and jet for around the same price as just buying the pipe so I let him do it.
(Mine's a 2006 I bought NOS in 2008). If I'm not mistaken, you turn the screw counter clockwise to lean the mix? I might try replacing my plug and working on the carb adjustment screws some more. Maybe some sea foam directly into the carb?
Maybe we can figure out these small SYM beasts together!

I bought a DD50 in pretty bad shape. Cleaned and tuned the carb with new jets, put in a new variator and weights, new cdi, new coil, new exhaust, had to bypass the oil pump and run premix, adjustable rear shock, the air box had been hacked and opened up. It took a bit of trial and error, but when I got done it hit 45-47 mph and ran damn near perfect. But I had the same problem, first start in the morning was a real pain, 15 kicks to get it going. Once started and warmed up, it would always fire on the first or second kick. I never did figure out the problem  |

I'm about to do some mods on mine. What weights did you go with? If I weighed them properly, the stock in mine are 8-9 gram. That seems heavy from other talk around the forum. Let me know what you settled on so I have a good starting point. Thanks in advance.

Check the fuel system. It might be draining a bit overnight leaving you with an empty bowl in the morning you need to fill up. Just something to consider.

Let me know what you settled on so I have a good starting point. Thanks in advance. The exhaust I put on was a "daily street" version from jiangwayne. It was not a tuned expansion pipe that has a narrow powerband requiring lighter variator weights to keep it "on the pipe". It did make the entire powerband very usable and did not have the fake half pipe extensions that restricted the stock exhaust. I put a generic Koso variator on it and after trying several lighter combinations, I found 9 gram sliders worked the best for my weight of 160 lbs. |

cool, thanks Gitsum. The variator i just ordered on ebay comes with 9's and i weigh 175 so sounds like i'm starting in about the right place to start tuning. Thanks for your help

It seems to me that I had read a post from one guy that changed to a platinum plug, said that it didn't change the way the engine ran but that it started easier in the morning. Anyone else tried it?
