well here we go. i have a 2 stroke qmb 40 that i bought and decided to put a 70cc bbk on it but, have not as of yet getting reeds and intake set along with carb.BUT i have akit that has 2 traditional rings for the piston and it has what i guess is a ring that is octagon shaped. my understanding is that this ring is suppose to go underneath the ring that is nearest the crank to increase compression. I WOULD LIKE SOME INPUT THANX MCIRISH!!!!!!!!!!

Rescue 911!
That octagon ring is your oil control ring. It goes in the third grove from the top of the piston. Install the octagon wavy ring part first. The ends should butt together not overlap. Then install the thin thin thin rings on both the top and the bottom part of that Octagon- wavy ring. Continue on with your second and then first compression ring ( the solid ones ) Compression rings are brittle do not over extend them.

this is a mod cycles bbk and it only has two slots for any rings so i guess it will go where i thought it might . my question is it optional and what effect putting it in or leaving it out will make

Not much of a piston if there are only two ring slots. That leaves you with only one compression ring- 1914 technology there. You will need to install that ring in the second slot to control the amount of oil on the cylinder wall. Without that ring in place and functioning properly your scooter will blow blue smoke like a freight train from idle to heavy load. That oil will foul your spark plug out in a few minutes.

OR, the oil compression ring is only on 4-strokes. On 2-strokes, it's typical to only have 2 rings and some kits only have 1 ring.
That wire ring is supposed to improve compression and is installed under the 2nd ring. It is optional. Some use it, others consider it a liability. Your choice.
