My Son In law has a 2009 tank scooter with 2900 miles on it. It set for eight months before he bought it. he gassed it up an has been riding it every day to work, around 50 miles a day. now he's telling me it's running really sluggish,so where would you start from now? He,s hard headed also! I tried to tell him to check a lot of things out before he rode it but he wouldn't listen. I,d say all the rubber is rotted on it for one thing. Any way I thought any of you 250cc guys would know where to start. Thanks!

If you can get through to him he has to understand that iam sure some things maybe like hoses and such may need to be replaced.Because if he doesn't it won't be running at all.My linhai 300 that i purchased a few months ago had been sitting in a garage for about a year and a half.New battery new hoses.Cleaned the carb. And new clutch. Is he mechanically inclined?

+1 on the full PDI
And you're probably correct on the rubber. Degrading fuel lines will clog up the carb.
First thing I do when restoring a scooter that has been sitting is change the fuel lines and fuel filter, and usually vacuum lines. Then I disassemble the carb and clean it up real good.
Those 2 things alone cure a lot of problems.
It's also likely in need of valve adjustment by now too. And I'd check the spark plug

Did he at least put fresh oil in both the engine and gear case? If not he could end up with a trashed bike in very short time.

Yo justdon!! Yea he's mechanically inclined, he's a diesel mechanic! that's what kills me! All I know when he bought it, he had to put a new battery in it ,an a brake switch. probably didn't even change the oil in it! LOL!
