Earlier today I offered $1500 for a spotless blue 3-year old 2008 Linhai Aeolus 260 with only 600 miles. I'm told that the scooter has been a great performer with no problems to date. It's mostly sat in the garage for 3 years, but has a fresh oil change and has been ridden recently. The owner was asking $1750, but he accepted my offer. I'll bring it home tomorrow, and am really happy with the deal.
This is my first scooter. I've been researching for several weeks and have spent several hours reading posts on this forum. Thanks to all who contribute. This is an incredible resource.
The owner bought this scoot new from a local B&M motorcycle dealership who carries Linhai. I spoke to someone at the dealership who says that they change all fluids on new Linhais and do a thorough inspection, but they don't upgrade hoses, fuel filter, spark plug, etc.
My questions are...
Is Linahi high-quality enough to skip some of the preventative parts replacement usually recommended on Chinese scoots?
Are there any suggestions for PM on a vehicle with 600 trouble-free miles, that might not be discussed in PM threads targeted at brand new units? ...or should I run through the list as if it were brand new?
It is currently running on non-synthetic oil. Is it still too soon to go with synthetic?
I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but have changed oil, replaced brake pads, alternators, batteries, etc. on my 4-wheelers and am pretty comfortable with a wrench.
Thanks again!

I would wait till 1000 to 1200 miles to switch to full synthetic oil.
Any scooter I buy, new or used I go ahead and do the PDI thing on it. By looking you can usually tell if the hoses have been changed and it never hurts to check all of the bolts, fasteners, electrical connectors and change any fluids.
Oh yeah, congratulations an your new ride!

Definitely change coolant and get some good tire valves if not done already.

keep your oil changed and change it often, i change mine every 30 days (between 500 and 800 miles).
change the final drive oil after about 100 miles and note any anomalies, it should look almost like you just put it in. if you notice "glitter" in the oil then you have some gears that are galling and need replaced.

Great stuff guys. Thank you.
I picked it up and rode it home earlier this evening--60 miles. I took a bit longer route to avoid freeways. Everything seemed to be functioning well. I'll get started on the work this weekend.

I changed my oil at 600 miles and then every 1500 miles. 15w-40 for motor. 80w for gear oil (every 3k).
