Oh by the way, buying from a dealer, expect to pay 25% mark up. Buy wholesale and assemble yourself. A 14yr old could do it. Cut out the middleman. So going to DMV takes 1 hr. I would save over 400 this way instead of a dealer. Thas getting paid to do it yourself. I don't completely agree with this. If you have a good dealer in your area, it's worth the investment to buy from them. A good dealer will stand behind the product, offer warranty support, and assist when needed. Granted there are a lot of shady dealers out there, but the good ones should be supported.

Some people are comfortable doing their own maintenance and wrenching. Some people aren't.
Some people are happy spending hours online searching for the absolute lowest price for a cheap part. Some people would rather go to a shop and trust what the employees there recommend.
There are good shops and bad ones, just like there are smart people who can handle their own safety and some who can't be trusted to ride a bike.

Never buy from a dealer. Too much mark up. Sure they sell you a warranty, but so does the dealer on Ebay for 500 less. All you get from any company is 30days wheel to wheel and 6 mo on engine. They are easy to repair and less down time if you repair yourself. If you ebay 150cc gas scooters, I see there was a demo with 2 miles for under 800. Whats wrong with that one? Its already assembled and you just need to find place for drop shipping truck has no lift.

Look up ebay item number : 400303429830 . Its a TAO TAO with free shipping for 798. Great deal. Don't buy from a dealer. Too much markup and no service. You end up repairing yourself so why buy from them? I only pay retail on my gas and groceries.

What you have to realixe is ther is only like 3 makers of scooters in China. They might have different names but are the same scoot with different parts for rear view mirror, VIP or SUNY. All are the same scoot made by same manufacturer.

I hate to break it to you but you ARE buying from a dealer in Irving Texas. See the showroom? Just because they are unloading it online doesn't mean it's not going through a dealer. Unless you are a dealer yourself you HAVE to buy new through a dealer. Perhaps you are talking about buying RETAIL at a brick and mortar shop. Anyway, we have available every model Tao Tao, Peace Sports, and Roketa that are available for sale in the U.S. Like most Internet resellers, we don't stock alot of scooters and if you were to purchase from us it would be a drop-ship from the warehouse. However, unlike most dealers, EVERY scooter we sell has a 1 year parts and in-store labor warranty. Greg

I just bought a 2012 Toatao VIP 50cc a couple of weeks ago. Whether I have 44km or 44 miles I'm not sure since the china-odom isn't marked as to which it is. I believe it to be 44 miles. I have had it up to about 45mph since the meter had the needle up over 70kph and less than 80. For some reason I doubt that the meter is calibrated for 10" inch or 12" unless someone can tell me for certain. I have not GPS verified and probably won't for some time as this is now tourist season and they haven't learned which side of the road to stay on nor are they aware that sidewalks are for foot traffic, they also stop suddenly in the middle of the street and fail to understand why ppl are po'd for it. Wish they would learn to read basic sign language before coming up here, they should at least know that two-fingers mean peace and one-finger doesn't mean half a peace.
Yes, it has the gaudy "Future Champion" decals on it. I would love to strip them off but they have been clear-coated over. At this point I have done nothing to the scoot except to top off the fuel and check the oil.
I bought it assembled and delivered for $750. It has the 139QMB according to the case stamp so I doubt it is the "secret 63". Regardless, I know it goes faster than the 30mph limit the state has set for them. I pretty much keep cars off my tail in the areas where speed limit is 40mph. I do not press the issue since it is not registration required. It is insured by choice although not mandated. Besides, I don't feel comfortable going that fast on those little 10" wheelsets yet. Give me a bit more time with it first.
I was hoping to be able to up the wheel sets to 12" but I see that would require a longer VRT (or whatever it's called) set and I am not willing to mod this thing just yet. I think I can do the front if I eliminate the fender as the dash/kneeboard will act as a fender. But I don't like the idea of a 1" difference and take a chance of not getting the oil where it needs to go. I would rather do it right the first time and not do a ghetto hack on it. Heck, I don't even have the tire black worn off the tread yet. Wait until I crash and burn and then we'll talk mods.
Right now the only thing I don't like is the uneven idle that seems to hunt around a small bit. I understand that a newer carb with larger jets are probably the first fix needed. With this being a sealed carb, the only thing I can do is adjust the idle. Since I live in CT on the shoreline the elevation runs between 0 and 12' so it's not like I have an elevation problem. I also need someone to get me pointed in the right direction on jet size.
Hope this helps for whatever you were looking for.

There are two versions of the 139QMB. Short case and long case. Short case can only fit a 10" rim and the long case typically come with 12" rims.
You can "plus size" the wheels on a short case, meaning get 12" rims with shorter tires so they clear the engine case. That is what they do on the Tao Tao CY50-T3. It changes the handling and the suspension feels much tighter. However, it may be hard to find the shorter 12" tires. You can buy the rim/tire combo from Tao Tao but they're not cheap.
The carburetor is set too lean. That is causing the hunting idle. You need to get an aftermarket carb that has the A/F adjustment as the stock one is probably tamper-proof.

I want to get a new carb with larger jets but don't know what jet size or who to trust for the carb. Hope you can recommend an online part supplier. I also don't know whether it is Type 1, 2, 3 or 4, other than the fact it does have an accelerator pump. So far the only thing I can tell is that the case stamp is 1P39QMB.
TIA,
Jeff

We sell E-Ton and my boss though he would try the Tao Tao as a cheaper scooter. They were sold the first month and have been back to the shop for one thing or another. Spend the little extra money and get a better scooter you will not be sorry.

TaoTao, Peace Sports (Bashan), and Gator (Jonway) all have the same V.I.P brand also JMSTAR and others, wording or color scheme may be different. www.justmopeds.com have them starting at $799 delivered. assembly of front wheel and steering column must be done. Very simple.

I did get my VIP Future Champion TaoTao 50cc from a dealer for $900 fully assembled... I liked being able to test drive it and to know that if shi7 went wrong I could bring it back in the first month. It has a date stamp of 4/2012. So far, I've put 300km on it and had no problems except a little bit of rattling noise that I haven't looked into at high speeds... and take left turns easy as the kick stand seems to hang lower on the left... I can take right turns pretty fast. It has been great this first week. I've taken (inadvertently) over some big bumps and potholes, nothing fell off or came loose. I've had my gf on it twice for about 3 or 4 mi. ride (I'm about 235, she's about 130 lbs. so there's 365 lbs no problem). It's lots of fun... I ride it constantly until my butt hurts too much which is why I'm looking into one of the special add-on seat cushions you can buy. The stock seat is fine, I just have a bony arse. I actually did post a little video of mine on youtube when I first got it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kyYfEKUqHs

Buying from a local brick and mortar dealer is the safest thing to do. After that I would suggest buying from one of the guys that have banner ads here, if that is not what you want to do just search the web and get the cheapest thing you can find and hope for the best.
Over the years there have been untold numbers of members that bought from a online dealer and had no problem but then the same dealer has sells that are reported as nothing but problems for the end buyer. The main concern is getting the title to it if you need one where you live and getting one from a local dealer almost always solves that problem and usually solves warranty problems.
