Hey I found this forum not to long ago and have been trying to read up on up a little bit as I am planning on getting a scooter in the coming months... I was wondering what everyone thought of the 150cc chinese scooters.. Im not really to the mechanical person but I plan on reading and reading some more to learn as much as possible (that and my uncle is a pretty good at cars and lawnmowers and is going to help me) I was thinking maybe getting the scooter and replacing the lines, carb, plug, and mayyyyyybe a BBK in the future (but only one that would increase it to about 170cc for a little extra somethin) I was wondering what everyones thought on this is.. Am I trying to bite of more then I can chew? even with my uncles help and me trying to learn as much as possible? thanks for anyones input

Welcome,
I love my Chinese 150cc scooter, have very few problems with it. It sounds like with the Uncle you could handle it pretty well. I'd suggest getting your uncle in here as a member and letting him do some research so he knows a bit more about the scooters. Most good small engine mechanics have no trouble fixing one of these.

ahh ok thanks for the reply.. will do (I've been reading up on this forum as much as I can also for anything I might learn) ... I'll actually most likely be looking to make the big scooter purchase at the beginning of next month maybe... hopefully by then everything shouldnt be as difficult to get set up and running

Between here and youtube for resources, installing a BBK is easier than ever for beginners.

thanks for the link Pony66 though I'm still not 100% on a BBK since I only plan to ride on 50 mph speed limits or under roads usually.... though It would be nice to hop on the highway for maybe for a FEW miles from time to time (though I don't see myself on any highway or anything like that for an extended amount of time) but this can all change once I'm actually on the road riding lol... and I never thought to look on youtube for installing BBK thanks inkyben

10W30 is fine, 5W30 if you're in the really cold regions. For the gear oil, you can use 80W90 year round.

One of the tricks I was taught was to put your right hand in your pocket (so you aren't tempted to give it gas) and grab your left/rear brake handle, then kickstart it. Should take 3 or 4 tries then be good. Naturally, check all fluids first and I presume you did your PDI.

Perhaps the idle is low its easy to adjust. You may find more help for your issues posting in the appropriate garage subforum

Yeah the fluids are good....and it actually idles at about 2,000 rpms... it did run for about a block and a half though today (I changed out the gear/motor oil n gave it another go) and I ended up having to push it back home...I'll try posting in the appropriate forums to see if anyone can help after I try adjusting the carb later today or tomorrow thanks everyone

so it sounds like a fuel delievery problem,,, nothing major,, look for restricted line comming from tank to fuel petcock/pump,,, btw,, is this a brand new scooter or used ? and what size/ make ? i didn`t see any info in your other posts,,regardless,, it runs and then dies,,, so it sounds like an easy fix,, nothing to diffuclt, but just to be sure,, check plug wire, boot,, possible vacum leaks,,, you`ll get it

Its a new SSR Znen Interceptor 150cc...I suppose ill try looking for any lines that might be pinched/and or restricted and im assuming you mean to see if the spark plug wire is loose? (though im a little lost when you say boot) So I'll probably check on that before going ahead to adjust the carb otherwise I'll post in the appropriate subforum. thanks for the advice

I feel dumb saying this but....I am currently unable to kick start my scooter...I also should have mentioned right now im living where its getting pretty cold so perhaps that is why? my scoot will run perfect and idle perfectly after being ridden lightly and warmed up I might add

Sounds pretty normal use the electric start the kick is for back up its not intended to be the primary starter...
