You're right Cardini...nothing like a scoot ride to "clear your head"...it is the good life!

I kind of ride for both...BUT...I ride like I'm riding my motorcycle: FF helmet, pants, boots, armored jacket, gloves- and it's "only" an Elite 110. Unfortunately, I live in a high traffic area of the country. This clothing regimen makes it tough to just 'ride around town' to pick up a few things at the store, even though I do that sometimes. It's just too much hassle to get ready. Work is within 4 miles each way. It's a lot to go through to then have to change clothes/shoes once I'm at work, try to fix the helmet-horrible hair, find a place to chain her up, etc. All of this makes riding for leisure on a planned trip more feasible in my case!

i ride because i love to. I keep wondering how long it will be before I wear it out. same here. i've got almost 9k miles on this thing and i wonder if i will get another 9 out of it. yes. the "hump" on my seat needs to be moved back about 6 inches. i haven't figured out any solutions.

I take lots of walks for health purposes and I get bored in the same old places. I have a great road to walk on in front of my house (one mile, dead ends, out in the country), but I live near various national, city, and county parks. So, I ride my scoot to the various locations to walk and save on gas...plus it makes my walk more fun! When I just need a couple of things from the store, I'll ride my scoot as I have really great storage under the seat of my 2008 SYM RV-250. Then, sometimes, when the conditions are right, I just go for a nice, long ride in the country to just get away from it all, get the wind in my face, and clear my head. Love it.

I started riding (the bigger bikes) wayyyyy back when i was sixteen...whole family rode, kids and all.
Got my first little scooter a month ago and i ride for the FUN, FUN, FUN of it. One of the most relaxing things i do. You know what 'they' say, For Some There's Therapy...For The Rest of Us, There's Motorcycles. (now a Scooter) Wind in the face, cruisin' along, nothing like it! ;D

I don't own a car so I ride for a reason, but I love riding. It's my way to work, church, the store, anywhere in town. I can't understand why most people don't own a scooter now.

I scoot around as my main mode of transport and daily driver now. I don't mind riding in the rain anymore, It feels super manly to be out there in the elements and enjoying nature in all its glory!
Even if it's my main ride ( by choice) I'll take it out and just cruise about putting a hundred miles on it no problem. There are no scooter clubs in my area that I know of and for the most part the people I do see on them seem like bums who got a hold of a few hundred dollars and drive them till they fall apart from lack of maintenance. ( 1/2 of you people would cry if you saw what is done to these things)
I considered working on them for fun as a side project to help people who need the help but after a little research and seeing the locals who work on these bikes as a living I'd rather not associate myself with any of them by trade.
I ride to ride and I ride to get things done.

Riding is a reason in itself to ride. This year i haven't gotten to ride for pleasure much at all. Used to ride an hour and a half every day to work, but moved within 6 miles so that's now a 10 min drive. Also the experimental nature of Fawkes right now has prevented me from riding as much as i want..
I love getting out there on the road and driving 50 or 60 miles... Used to do it with the Fort Wayne Scooter club and we had a ball... Sure miss it.. Riding is the reason to ride, I would rather be on two wheels in the wind, than anywhere else.

I only have a 50cc and I ride to ride. It's more fun to me than any other rec. mobile I've been on, from four wheelers to jet skis to snow machines. It's just fun. My 2 cents. Had mine for 23 days and just broke 1,000 km.

I ride for a reason (to and from work) but I also ride a lot to just ride. I will come home greet the family have some grub and take off! There are a lot of great places to just drive around here. Plus there are TONS of bike and scooter drivers around. I may get a lot of funny looks considering I am tatted up and big holes in my ears with a long goatee. But I love my scooter and I dig ridin period. In my state we don't have helmet or ear phone laws so I just ride and ride

I ride purely for fun now. And with the recent upturn in scooter thefts I never ride anywhere but round trips, no stopping, except to rest my behind. Also I've become extremely safety conscious and don't like to go to the store in full gear and have to strip down to go inside. Sometimes I'll take a book and ride to a favorite spot to keep the blood pressure low. It's awesome therapy to get on a scoot and just ride. Last weekend I was riding along and realized I didn't know were I was (new neighborhood) and let off a huge smile and kept on going.

I ride both to work and for fun. I live in CT, so I can't ride all winter, but if it is above 40 degrees and the roads are dry, I'll ride to work during the cold weather. When I have free time, I love to ride.
I've taken a few long trips. My husband and I rode to Maine for our vacation this year. It was a couple hundred miles from home, 2 years ago we rode to New Hampshire for vacation. Last year I rode solo to Michigan. Round trip of about 1700 miles. Next year I am hoping to ride solo from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

I ride for fun, mostly on weekends. I have a car, need it to get to work cos I have to use the freeway, but once I find a quick back road I will take the scoot. More than a few times I have started riding at 10 am and then come back 8 hours later going here and there for no reason. I once rode out late at night and rode about through the city, parked up on a hill and watched the sunrise. It has to be one of my best rides yet.

When I can, I try to do both. I love riding, just for fun. However, when I can, and I need to get something it's an extra motivator.
For instance, if I need to get something from a supermarket, and want to ride, the scooter is the excellent choice!
Last time I wanted to know how alligator meat tasted, reason enough to go on a 200 mile trip to the everglades, to eat it in a restaurant!
I wanted to see Lake Okeechobee, about 50 miles away from here, and I was thirsty, so, Reason enough to open my coke bottle with vista on the great okeechobee, and come back!
I've done a lot of silly things... Need to look for a car? Well, don't stop at the nearest dealer, but look at what all dealers have in stock. Even the ones 25 miles away, and go there on the scooter ofcourse!

In 1979 or 1980 - after watching Quadrophenia as a new release at the theater - I wanted to be a mod and have an Italian scooter. That was in high school. Motorcycles were all around me, but none of my friends had them, so I never had the chance to try to ride one except as a passenger on rare occasions. I finally got my chance in Costa Rica in 2004. I rode a rented scoot from Puerto Viejo, on the Caribbean side, almost the whole way to Panama. After I quit my teaching job at the local state university campus, I opened my own English school, but times have been somewhat lean since then, and since everything in town is within walking distance and my school is on the large family estate (nothing fancy), I stopped maintaining my old car, put it in an out-of-the-way place on the pretext of a broken water pump, and took to walking, but I was beginning to see Italika scooters around and, even though lots of people who have never had one said they were the worst, one day I went to the local Elektra store and was surprised to find I had enough cash in my wallet to buy a WS150 with enough left over for insurance, which is sold at the dealership (a single transaction). I already had environmentalist leanings, so that provided additional conviction. I believe that able-bodied people who ride cages alone and aren't using them to haul more than a shopping bag are selfish and spendthrift, and I'm not sorry if I offend. (I reckon really cold weather is a good excuse.)
But essentially, riding a GY6 is fun, cheap, and convenient. It's also an interesting hobby if you are drawn to working on them yourself, which is why we're all here, I suppose. I don't foresee ever having a car again, or even wanting one. The weather here is still great, and while I hate riding in the rain, I didn't like driving in it either and avoided doing so as much as possible. A motorcycle is out of the question because, as someone else mentioned, I dislike getting my leg over something and then faced with a choice of stuff riding up you the whole way or public picking to set things straight back there.
I'm planning a trip to Sequoia National Park next year. I've found a route that avoids the desert. Anyone game?

With it being 35 degrees outside on a daily basis here in NM now, it's difficult to ride for 'pleasure' right now. I pretty much use my scooter right now to get to work and back, and just walk locally, because its much less cool than whizzing around in a scooter in the cold.

I ride mine back and forth to work when I can. It does take me some extra time, as my scoot lives in the garage and the I can't take the freeway. I wouldn't say I ride with a purpose as anytime I get on the scooter, I have fun, even if it's just to go to the store, or to work. I do have it good tho, as my two best buddies got scooters the same time I did so we all three try to ride together as often as we can. Usually about once a week. Attachments:

I rode mine home from work tonight and it was a very chilly 30 degrees! Ouch. And I know its just gonna get worse. I let my scoot warm up for a few minutes before taking off, because it sounded like it wanted to die when I first got on it. I rode to the gym today and it was about 40 degrees, very bracing to ride after a nice workout, tho!
Hey Prodigit! I see you're on here, too. Good to see someone from the other boards here!

I ride for a lot of reasons, mostly I love 2 wheelers. Not gonna lie, I have no drivers license. I can have them, but don't want them. I have been scootin since the 70s. I had the old moped with pedals back then. I loved it. I fully customized it (looked like a girls bike when I got it). Let me tell you the guys at the biker bar had a good laugh when I rolled up and parked next to them. I put a motorcycle tank, high low seat, road bar, and a sissy bar on it lol. I got free brews all night. I just finished my now scoot which is a 1999 eton beamer. Loving it! 72cc kit, racing pipe etc. It hauls a## pretty well and topping around 55/60 mph with my mods. My thanks to everyone on this forum because I've been reading for years but not posting. I got most of my tips here and they were all good. I ride because I love to ride. Nuff Said

EVERY ride is for a REASON - even if that reason is just to charge the battery. I used to commute 50 miles round trip every day, mostly on cruisers of various sizes. That was the least fun (not because of the traffic, but because it got boring). But, it was still fun compared to driving anything else. Now, my only real "commute" is to church and back a few times a week. Twelve miles round trip on a scooter. I leave my guitar and other equipment there so I can leave the car at home. By far, my favorite part of the two-wheel experience is the variety of smells - freshly cut lawns, fields being plowed, peppermint harvests, pine forests, summer rains, backyard burns, even fertilizer! It's much more immediate and involving on a bike. Other than my 'commute', and trips to the store, I like to take the scooter up into the mountains and get lost on the logging roads. Some of the vistas I've found make great spots for meditation or just plain relaxation, as there is nothing but wildlife for miles around.

I ride my scoot every working day for 40 kilometres (to work and back) in heavy traffic, but I still enjoy 10 to 20 more kilometres after work. You know, just cruising, no direction. Weather sucks now, but in summer I frequently do 50+ km per day with it in the weekends.
