I've got a hand me down helmet from my God son, the tag insode says (S) for small I presume. The helmet fits fine, a little tight if I wear a full face hat in winter but under normal conditions I think it's just fine fit wise.
Is there something I sould look for with the fit so I get a better fit?
I'm thinnking of ordering a new "transformer" helmet online and I've only seen number sizes not S, M, & L. Any ideas suggestions on what or how to order? Any comments on the "Transformer" style helmet(s)?

A new helmet should fit "snug". Real snug, it doesn't take long for the padding to compress. I would suggest going to you're local motorcycle shop and try on different sizes, then you could order online. Helmet sizes vary between manufacturers but not that much. Haven't seen the Transformer helmet, but if it's not top quality it's not a good buy. You will be SO happy with a new helmet rather a hand me down. I finally got mine last Christmas and have not worn my thrift store helmet since. My new helmet is a large and it fits tighter than my old "med". Padding.......

I bought my scooter from a friend who wasn't using it, and he gave me a full face helmet with it. But the helmet is a bit too small. It squeezes the sides of my face too much. If I open my mouth with the helmet on, and then close my mouth, there's a very real chance I'll bite the insides of my cheeks if I'm not careful. I think I need to go up a size. Oh well, it was FREE!

Buying a helmet is much easier at a store - try them on. As mentioned above, they should be tight. Good advice is to wear one around the shop for 10 minutes and see how you feel. You want it not t slide at all, be snug but not cause headaches, and you shouldn't have a red/compressed head when you take it off.
I've bought one helmet online that fit perfectly, but bought from another brand and it was too tight (I'm waiting on my the replacement to come right now). Online, the stores have measurements (just above the eyebrows in either CM or inches). However, the measurements are not perfect, but brands are usually consistent.

when u try a new helmet on (with the strap tightened) , it should be tight enough so that if you grab the helmet by the chin area, and wiggle it from front to back, the skin on top of your head/scalp should move with the helmet. If the helmet slides over your scalp with your motions, then its too loose. Other than that, its a matter of comfort then. the padding will compress after a few hours of usage, so a bit snug is okay. biting your cheeks when u open and close your mouth, probably too tight .

All heads are not created equal. Size is not the only factor. Depending on the shape of your head some brands feel better than others. This is why you should buy where you can try it on.

When I have my full face helmet on, with or without the visor lowered, it kinda feels like I'm watching someone on TV, doing whatever I'm doing, and seeing whatever I'm seeing. Like I'm not really there, know what I mean?
I haven't had a need to wear helmets in over 20 years, so it's taking time to get used to again.

I'm SO glad to hear that my HJC fit's me perfect now, but I was thinking the padding would compress shortly. Timk225...When I first got my new helmet it was SO isolating it was like being inside a new car!!! Awesome! Attachments:
