I installed 8g sliders and I love em! I am accelerating in the high 6k low 7k range (both uphill and flat) and cruising in the 4k range. Still a bit sluggish from 50mph on, but I rarely go that fast. I also had a bit of a fiasco with an aftermarket intake/filter system, I'm going to wait before I comment more on that until I try to figure out whats going on before jumping to conclusions. Lets just say, it didn't like it! I also want to rule out that it didn't have anything to do with my first breakdown that happened today. Evidently its not so uncommon - the "E" clip holding the jet needle broke, letting the needle fall and cut off fuel through that jet. Throttle response just went away as I was riding, luckily I was able to pull right off the road. It would only idle and rev the tiniest bit, just enough to engage the clutch and let me walk it to home base. Luckily I wasn't too far away and even got a lift for half the trek. Spare carb parts are a great thing! She's all fixed up from that now. Also, I had enough time to begin LED phase 3, here's a teaser pic Attachments:

4,128miles (I'm gonna start logging miles, I've been racking them up. 2,300 on it when I bought it in February)
So it happened AGAIN...! (the needle clip broke) At least this time it didn't fall far enough to make it not run at all... Granted I had been shuffling the clip around, experimenting since last time.
So I went to fetch the one out of my 3rd parts carb and noticed some things. The rubber diaphragm in this one was much thicker, and the slide was black, not grey. Also, I've heard tales about drilling out the vacuum port hole in the bottom of the slide cylinder thing... wouldn't you know both holes in this one were larger enough to be easily noticeable by eye. So of course I used it, and indeed the throttle does feel a touch more 'snappy' to the point where everything gets going, then still accelerates normally. What I liked best though was how much more secure the needle felt in this one. In the other two carbs the needle sat a little loose, able to "jingle" around a little bit if you played with it. In this one, it hardly moved, I found was because it had a tiny o-ring under it that helps hold it once you screw the little plate back onto it.. I bet with all the air turbulence in the carb, the needle could dance around enough to weaken that clip. Also the clip in this one was definitely better quality to boot... This was a Jinxiong carb I was pulling these good parts out of... I betcha its Taiwanese...
On another note, the muffler is falling apart more and more, rattling and backfiring getting worse... (leaning out the needle has helped with that.) So I was 'forced' to get a cheap aftermarket 'performance' muffler with a silencer. Lets hope installation isn't too much of a chore and I can finally start to fine tune this thing! And maybe then I can use that fancy air intake/filter... its chrome would reflect the blue LED light mighty nice...

4,415miles
Well this clip is holding up so far, even with a few more adjustments. I've been playing with it and the air/fuel screw... I had it pretty rich, leaning it out helped with the popping a little too. I put on a better foam filter, I noticed the current one had a hole in it from where it used to rub on the cross-member... so I'm still adjusting. We are also going through a 90+ hot spell and it doesn't seem to like the hottest part of the day.
I never put on the aftermarket muffler, I received the wrong application and the design was nothing like what I wanted, luckily I was able to send it back. Ironically it sounds like just today my gasket has blown, luckily I ordered a nice metal/matrix type with my last scooter part purchase. Currently a thin ring type is in there now. It had none when I got it, lol. I need to change the oil again anyway, and I probably should have re-checked the valves a thousand miles ago...

4,544miles progress! and some setback... I purchased and installed a different exhaust system, a cheap $99 one that has a true silencer insert. The muffler is on the small side (14"), which I like, less mass you vibrate and make stress on the questionalble mounting. I made a long rant thread about installation fitment in the tech section ('some' modification required) hopefully to get some more info from others on what fits and what doesn't Here: scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=talk&thread=52765I also successfully stripped a stud-hole in the head... be easy on those because there are not many threads in that little 6mm hole... I have a fat coarse thread screw-bolt in there now, and a heli-coil kit ready for when that fails. It sounds great with the silencer in, not too loud, but I think the silencer is stuck in there now... I cranked it down while it was hot because it was loose and spinning around. I rounded the nubs a little trying to remove it after it cooled down... I hope I can get it out to experiment some more. It definitely ran best with it in before I swapped the jet... it runs even better now with a #114 jet (my replacement carb had a 108 in it, no wonder it was rich before!) It hasn't fallen off yet... maybe 50 miles on it, but I can already see blow-through discoloration coming around the rivets.... If I can find a better quality exhaust that will definitely fit like it should, I will probably get it..

4622mi A tip I forgot to share: the next best thing to a pin gage for measuring jets is a torch tip cleaner set. You can find them any any hardware store and they are good to at least compare what you have. I would have wasted a lot of time if a co-worker didn't think to give me those to size up what came out of my carb. Also forgot to mention that the scooter runs much, much better with this exhaust, especially now with the larger main jet. Very noticeable acceleration improvement, especially uphill. Going from 35 to 45 on a flat takes just a couple seconds now It holds most of these 'hill city' hills beautifully. This is all probably just how a healthy 150 should run but it sure feels nice to help get it there. Lets just hope I don't blow it up before I have all figured out! With the 114 main jet in, I still get some poppy backfiring coming off low-mid throttle and while coasting downhill but coming off WOT is fine... I've adjusted the needle all the way up and down, leaning it out doesn't help. I'm thinking up up-sizing the pilot jet. I think it still wants more fuel because it likes the paper cone filter now, the same kind that made it run poor when it was rich (before the muffler). I need to read the plug some more but I think it just wants a little more... I knew I should have just gone with the 115.... I also finished putting the blue underbody LEDs in... great success. I just need to get some video of the strobe module in action

Would be great to see the video! My next step (after I did put A LOT of reflective stickers on my trunk and helmets) is bright white LEDs all over the scoot, already ordered from amazon.

Not sure about my mileage - the speedo cable broke! And of course it is 42" long and the closest I can find is 40"... but its cheap enough to take a chance. There was a fair amount of slack in that one anyway... I'd imagine I've put at LEAST 500 more miles on it... Everything is holding up... and some progress was made...! The muffler is still holding on... I have to snug up the manifold bolt-and-screw now and then though. And I think the bit of leakage slipping past the riveted-on end caps had blown a little fiberglass out with it and plugged the holes! lol. I regularly shine a light down in it to check for blockage... lets hope it holds up through the season! While I had the upper deck apart to remove/inspect the speedo cable, I went ahead and put blue LED bulbs in for the cluster illumination Also tightened up some loose screws in there, now I have much fewer rattles. Also I: - Found my perfect slider weight : I had recently been on the one 55mph road I like to ride on since installing the pipe and jet, and it felt like the rpms were too high... so I decided to go back up to 10g. I didn't like it, it took my controllable rpms back down to below 7k and it felt like I lost acceleration all around. So, a balanced mix of 8 and 10 went in, and I love it! Rpms aren't quite as high, but it feels like it accelerates just as good as with the 8g sliders, if not better! I think I have found that fine balance... I actually experienced a 'down-shift' for the first time the other day... I had just turned onto a street with a decent size hill, the approach to it left me enough room to get up to about 45mph at WOT. As I started up the hill, still WOT, my rpms actually went UP about 500rpm... and I went right on up that hill. - Installed goodies and got it to run smoother: The idle was getting erratic again, anywhere from 1500 to 2200, and I'd recently adjusted the valves. The intake was starting to crack again, and while looking for a replacement, I noticed the NCY blue Teflon intake cost the same as two stock ones! I heard this fit better than the big bulky chrome one, so I got it. I couldn't resist a Mikuni fuel pump either... My stock one would max out like they do if you stay WOT too long, and it gives me more 'long-distance balls' knowing I have upgraded to a better quality part. I got the intake to fit real nice, more info on that and the pump install here: scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=talk&thread=55266&page=1I also put in a #38 pilot jet, but I can't say that helped anything. Overall she does idle better and run just a good, if not a tad better. - And finally, I got it to quit backfiring!!! It wasn't too bad, mostly only if I let off low-mid throttle too quick. I could ride it 'softly' enough to make it not backfire. But after reading about it here... I fabbed up a block-off plate for the EGR/PAIR head port, pulled all that other crap off, and its great! I can't MAKE it backfire now. Now while it's DEcelerating hard, it sounds like a robot tiger growling. I love it! Me so happy... time to go rip it up!

It was almost the end of the riding season by the time I got the 50cc to where I was halfway satisfied with it... not this time. Ha... I just thought it was funny reading this, here it is almost the end of the 'riding season' and I just recently got it to where I'm happy with it... lol. I reckon I was 'halfway' satisfied by mid season so I still did good. Oh well... the muffler falling apart was unexpected but I'm glad it did... its sounds like a beast (for a scooter) with the POS after-market system on it. It was good to spread out the money spending for mods too... leave some room for unexpected things it needs that way. After I replace the speedo cable hopefully it wont have anymore needs... I'm definitely going to hang on to this thing. Even if I get a motorcycle next season, this will be the grocery getter, the backup if the motorcycle fails me, and something for my friends to ride if they want to go cruising around town. A few of them rode my 50cc around behind my 150cc for fun this year, but it wasn't much fun for either of us, lol!

5200 miles + whatever 500 some I lost while the speedo cable was broke Just wanted to say everythng is great and have had to put nothing but GAS (and a couple squirts of oil) into it for the past 2 months! I'm still riding, even on mid 30 degree mornings when I have to wipe the frost off the seat. I also put in some blue replacement bulbs into the instrument cluster a while back and and never put up pics. While I was in there, I went in a tried to tighten up some screws and sneak in longer ones where some mounts had broke (the whole head piece rattles). This was ok until the first bump I went over, then it all broke worse. I had to rig it a bit just to keep the dash from coming loose... but its holding. And still rattling... I'm VERY tempted to look into one of those universal digital clusters and using that with naked handlebar switches, getting rid of the whole stock head. I'll still be able to keep the windshield and front nose piece too, so it wouldn't look horrible from the front either... Attachments:
