As some of you may have read, I picked up a 2005 Yamaha Majesty a few weeks ago. has 1600 miles on it and runs and rides great.
Only problem, it was layed down and a lot of plastics damage. A couple side covers were replaced but the front cowl (all one piece) is broken or cracked in a couple places and the reinforcing pieces in the back are broken loose in a couple places as well. The headlight assembly is broken as well as the tail light assembly.
I have a good plastic welder and am planning on repairing it all. I'll then paint the bike red, to match the helmet I bought for my Chinese scooter. It will take a bit of work, but will save me a boatload of money and I'll get the satisfaction of saying that I did it all by myself.
I have all the plastics off the scooter right now and will post some pictures of both the scooter and the damage when I get a chance. I'll also update this thread as I get the pieces repaired and reinstalled on the scooter.
This should be a good project and one I can enjoy come spring riding weather.

Yamaha...Nice... and she is just broke in with that mileage. Good luck with the repairs, be interested in how you make them on that plastic.

Great scoot. NIce project should be fun. I am sure many of us would like you to take many pictures and write a prgress report now and then. It would be nice if you shared what you found that worked good and what did not as well as what you discoved that fixed it well and what did not. I have only added a few tabs using plastic bumper repair stuff. A bit pricey to do much with. Good luck. Cheers lefty2

I finished making my repairs. Sorry I didn't take time to shoot any pictures. I'll post a picture of the plastic welder that I use when I get time. I'll also give you the name of it. The kit comes with rods to weld just about any type plastic. It also gives a very descriptive essay on welding the different types of plastics as well.
I found the welder worked very well and I got all the tabs and cracks welded up on the scooter. I'll be putting it all back together today and with the temps the next couple days in the 60's will even get to do some riding.

I was a plastics fabricator for 30 years making items for the water and petrochem industries, I've repaired quite a few fairings, side panels and even petrol tanks on off roaders in my time. I used to cut filler rod from old car bumpers or other fairings, failing that PVC rod will usually work although the final repair is not quite as strong. Welding should produce a good strong repair as long as you get the heat level spot on, you need good "flash" or fusion without burning the plastic and sending it black or brown. Using a pendulum action to heat the filler rod and parent material right at the point of contact works well and you need to be pushing the rod"in" to the joint rather than laying it on. Apologies if I'm teaching my Granny how to suck eggs here!
